Video game influencer<\/a> Alex Cimo<\/strong>\u2018s wife and mother are seemingly at odds over the way his death at age 32 from stage 4 colon cancer was publicly announced.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the Yu-Gi-Oh!<\/em> content creator\u2019s mom, Mary-Frances Alonzo<\/strong>, shared with her LinkedIn followers in a now-deleted message that Cimo died following a lengthy battle with cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, I have a very personal post to share as many of my colleagues are familiar with our journey. Last night, my amazing son, Alex Cimo, left us after a hard-fought battle with Stage IV colon cancer,\u201d Alonzo wrote. \u201cWords cannot describe the magnificent human being that he was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alonzo described her son as \u201cso talented, brilliant and wise beyond his 32 years\u201d while marveling at the way Cimo grew his social media following. (Cimo was popular among Yu-Gi-Oh!<\/em> fans for his strategy guides, giveaways and deck profiles.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe online community honored the lives of several social media influencers who died in 2025. In April, nursing influencer Hailey Okula died at age 33 after giving birth to her first child. Her husband, Matthew Okula, confirmed that she died from an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE). Dr. Precious Barnes, DO, a family medicine physician specializing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI want to thank all of you for your unwavering support and prayers over the past year and a half,\u201d she concluded. \u201cYou have touched my heart and carried us through the unimaginable. I feel so very blessed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alonzo\u2019s memorial post seemingly set off some turmoil within her family as Alex\u2019s wife, Bryttni<\/strong><\/a>, complained about the death announcement via social media. (Bryttni did not directly reference her mother-in-law by name in her multiple X posts.)<\/p>\n

\u201cA bit frustrated that the death of my husband was leaked without my consent. I had a specific plan in place to announce it when I was ready after I gave myself and our family space to grieve. I know that you all loved him dearly,\u201d she tweeted<\/a> on Thursday, June 4. \u201cAlex was very forthcoming about his health journey with all of you and I want to honor that but I am not ready at this moment. I will make a video with further details and post it on his channel at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Friday, June 5, Bryttni shared a lengthier statement<\/a> to explain why she was caught off guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex passed very suddenly on Tuesday,\u201d she wrote. \u201cAs you may imagine, I am still very raw from my bereavement and I was not ready to share this pain with the world so soon. I was not aware the LinkedIn post was going to be made.\u201d<\/p>\n

Per Bryttni, she\u2019d made her own plans \u201cin accordance with Alex\u2019s wishes\u201d to wait \u201ca couple of weeks\u201d before making any announcement so that her \u201cpain felt a bit more dulled.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex was always very forthcoming about his health journey with all of you and I want to continue to honor that and answer some questions you may have,\u201d she acknowledged. \u201cI greatly appreciate the outpouring of love for Alex. I know that he touched the lives of many of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryttni told her followers that \u2014 on top of her grief \u2014 she was dealing with \u201csomeone try[ing] to hack\u201d her X account as well as figuring out how Alex\u2019s obituary was written by \u201csomeone I do not know\u201d in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of things that I must take care of in addition to nursing my grief,\u201d she explained. \u201cJust know that I will answer your questions when I am ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
