Katie Holmes<\/strong><\/a> opened up about her viral reunion with Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em><\/a> costar Joshua Jackson<\/strong><\/a> for their upcoming film, Happy Hours<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, it was unexpected,\u201d the actress, 47, said of the fans\u2019 excitement for her and Jackson, also 47, to share the screen again in an interview with Variety<\/em><\/a> published on Friday, June 5. \u201cI know we were on a show that a lot of people watched, but I guess we never fully realized the impact. It still kind of throws all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before Jackson signed on to the project, Holmes, who serves as the movie\u2019s writer and director, checked in with her former costar \u2014 and ex-boyfriend<\/a> \u2014 if there was a chance he would be down for the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hadn\u2019t worked together in 25 years, and we\u2019ve changed a lot,\u201d Holmes explained. \u201cWe also wanted to give ourselves the space to show different sides of ourselves and to not portray these people we\u2019re known for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackson, 47, and Holmes, 46, were all smiles while reuniting on the set of her new untitled movie in New York City on Monday, July 21. Jackson ultimately said yes. Holmes shared that working with Jackson again after all these years was just like riding a bike.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like a shorthand that we quickly realize still exists,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve always done well working off one another. He directs me and I direct him without us even mentioning it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last summer, Holmes and Jackson drove the internet wild after photos of them filming<\/a> in New York City went viral. While there was a high amount of interest in the filming process, Holmes confessed that they attempted to keep some things under wraps.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t want anyone to record us. Sometimes it worked; obviously sometimes it didn\u2019t,\u201d she recalled. \u201cIt was nothing we couldn\u2019t handle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nearly three decades ago, Jackson and Holmes were cast on Dawson\u2019s Creek<\/em><\/a>, in which they played Pacey and Joey, respectively. After the show\u2019s premiere in 1998, the pair started dating but called it quits the following year. Despite their break up, Jackson and Holmes continued to work together on the teen drama and their characters ended up being love interests. The pair remained friends even after the show wrapped up in 2003.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Jackson reflected on what it was like to reunite with Holmes<\/a> for Happy Hours<\/em>.<\/p>\n
