New Ulm -The Concord Singers kicked off New Ulm\u2019s Music in the Park series Thursday night at German Park.<\/p>\n

\n

Music in the Park is sponsored by New Ulm Park and Recreation, and KNUJ. Along with weekly concerts every Thursday, the event features Rec on the Go activities at 5:30pm. New Ulm\u2019s puppet wagon will be present starting next week at 6:15 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Founded in 1931, The Concord Singers have not only been a staple to German culture in New Ulm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe travel all around,\u201d member Bob Wright said, \u201cwe go up to the cities, go up to Ruttger\u2019s by the Brainerd Lakes area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amy Zents, who introduced the Concord Singers, described them as \u201cAmerica\u2019s foremost German language male chorus.\u201d She said that they \u201cdeliver rich harmonies, classic polkas, waltzes, and songs that make you feel like you are right in the heart of Bavaria.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Concord Singers once again performed the first Music in the Park concert of the season in German Park. The concert series will continue Thursday, June 11 with a performance from On Maryland.

Thursday\u2019s event was also the start of the Concord Singer\u2019s season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like a snowball rolling down the hill,\u201d Concord singer Hank Bode said. \u201cWhen we get to September and October we\u2019re booked every weekend. We\u2019ll be doing Bavarian Blast and Oktoberfest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Doug Sellner, the Concord Singer\u2019s newest member, was introduced before the band\u00a0performed \u201cAus New Ulm Kommt Musik.\u201d The group said it translates to \u201cAll good music comes from New Ulm.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Concord Singers also performed \u201cHallelujah.\u201d They joked, \u201cWhich in English translates to Hallelujah.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Good-natured fun is a shared element among Concord Singers, along with their emphasis on good will.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to bring good will and German heritage everywhere, it\u2019s a lot of fun,\u201d Wright said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bode added, \u201cWe try to give good will through our singing and being good citizens of New Ulm.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Concord Singers will be performing at Schell\u2019s Brewery on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Classic rock cover band On Maryland will play next Thursday\u2019s Music in the Park concert at 7 p.m. <\/p>\n
