The Ohio History Connection and Zoar Community Association will rededicate the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot of the American Revolution June 27 at Fort Laurens, Ohio\u2019s only Revolutionary War fort.<\/p>\n The tomb commemorates an unknown soldier and 22 other American soldiers buried at Fort Laurens during its operation from 1778 to 1779.<\/p>\n The rededication is part of a renovation project scheduled through 2028 that includes a new monument, masonry repairs and landscaping enhancements at the tomb; renovations and upgrades to the site museum; partial reconstruction of the fort\u2019s stockade wall; and a multiyear public archaeology program.<\/p>\n \u201cFort Laurens is the site of Ohio\u2019s only Revolutionary War fort, and it honors American soldiers buried there through the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot of the American Revolution,\u201d said Megan Wood, executive director and CEO of the Ohio History Connection. \u201cOhio did not become a state until 1803, so we have few preserved ties to the American Revolution and the founding of our country. That\u2019s why a reimagined Fort Laurens is such a transformative project that will benefit generations of Ohioans to come.\u201d<\/p>\n The Zoar Community Association manages day-to-day operations at Fort Laurens on behalf of the Ohio History Connection.<\/p>\n \u201cThis rededication marks an exciting milestone for Fort Laurens, the Zoar Community Association and the Ohio History Connection,\u201d said Tammi Shrum, Fort Laurens site director. \u201cFort Laurens is Ohio\u2019s only connection to the American Revolution, and this new memorial ensures all soldiers, known and unknown, will be honored for generations to come. We\u2019re proud to welcome the community to be part of this ceremony.\u201d<\/p>\n The rededication will begin at 1 p.m. June 27 at Fort Laurens, 11067 Fort Laurens Road NW, Bolivar.<\/p>\n The program will include a wreath-laying ceremony.
