{"id":2448111,"date":"2026-06-06T20:23:43","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T20:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2448111"},"modified":"2026-06-06T20:23:43","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T20:23:43","slug":"tom-hanks-makes-surprise-visit-to-to-bay-area-typerwriter-store","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/tom-hanks-makes-surprise-visit-to-to-bay-area-typerwriter-store\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Hanks makes surprise visit to to Bay Area typerwriter store"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F06%2F130008323.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker Tom Hanks took a trip to one of the most novel spots in the Bay Area: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/25\/entertainment\/tom-hanks-keeps-2-year-promise-and-sends-vintage-typewriter-to-small-oregon-business-owner\/\">a typewriter store<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Photos <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZMG_DIlF90\/?img_index=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted on social media<\/a> by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/berkeleytypewriter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berkeley Typewriter<\/a> \u2014 which has offered vintage typewriter service repairs for 90 years \u2014 showed the star chatting with workers and sitting in front of a black typewriter. <\/p>\n<p>While he was there, Hanks picked up a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/16\/tech\/gen-z-and-parents-are-hitting-rewind-on-tech-people-are-just-sick-of-it\/\">1930s Royal machine<\/a>, the shop said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tom Hanks at the Berkeley Typewriter store <span class=\"credit\">Instagram\/@Californiatypewriter<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The \u201cForrest Gump\u201d and \u201cCast Away\u201d star spent an hour in the store testing out its wares before making a purchase, staff said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the shop\u2019s website, Hanks didn\u2019t just buy a typewriter \u2014 he gifted the shop a treasured one from his collection. <\/p>\n<p>Photos shows a red typewriter accompanied by a letter from Hanks, both bearing his signature. The actor owns over 300 of them, has been collecting them over 30 years, and was involved in an effort to try to save another similar store, California Typewriter. That business ended up closing in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHanks has spoken about his love for typewriters, saying they have a unique charm and character that can\u2019t be replicated by modern technology.
