A series of classical musical concerts have been lined up at Huddersfield Grade I listed stately home Banney Royd.<\/p>\n
The home off Halifax Road in Edgerton is set in seven acres of grounds and was built by legendary designer Edgar Wood \u2013 the architect also responsible for Lindley Clock Tower \u2013 in 1901.<\/p>\n
It already hosts weddings and guided tours and there is more information about both on its website.<\/p>\n
The first music event is called Music In An English Country Garden on the afternoon of Saturday, July 18 and will feature Holme Valley Orchestra playing quintessentially English music such as Elgar, Walton and Vaughan Williams.<\/p>\n
Banney Royd has been owned by Mike Phillips and Marina Shaw since 2011 and Mike plays the French horn with the orchestra.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cWe think the classical music events are really in synch with the house. In my early 20s I played the French horn but then stopped and didn\u2019t return to it until my mid-60s.<\/p>\n
\u201cI found Holme Valley Orchestra to be very welcoming to returning players and just thought it would be good to get some exposure for Holme Valley and community orchestras in general.<\/p>\n

Holme Valley Orchestra<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Standard tickets cost \u00a328 and VIP tickets \u00a375 and all tickets must be bought in advance. The VIPs will have a three-course lunch with wine, seating outside and shelter if necessary.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a welcome drink for standard ticket holders with food for sale, including strawberries and cream, and a bar.<\/p>\n People need to bring their own chairs and blankets to settle in for a very relaxed afternoon.<\/p>\n This event is free for under 16s to encourage children to listen to classical music.<\/p>\n An event in early autumn will be Classical Piano by Candlelight featuring Mike\u2019s brother, well-known concert pianist Jonathan Phillips, playing the work of classical composers such as Beethoven. The concert will be in the large billiard room making it a black tie limited ticket close-up and personal performance.<\/p>\n Jonathan\u2019s concerto experience is considerable with more than 100 performances including concertos by Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Chopin and Schumann.<\/p>\n He has broadcast for the BBC and given recitals all over the UK and Europe.<\/p>\n The date has yet to be finalised but will probably be within the first two weeks in October.<\/p>\n A Christmas event on Saturday, December 12 will feature some singers from Huddersfield Choral Society and Lindley Brass Band with Christmas carols, a few stalls,\u00a0mulled wine and hot chocolate.\u00a0The event will be outdoors in front of the house.<\/p>\n Banney Royd is reputedly the most important Arts and Crafts house in the north of England featuring stained glass windows, oak woodwork, carved wooden icons, grand fireplaces with detailed carvings, barrel vaulted ceilings, arched doorways and stone mullion leaded windows.<\/p>\n Arts and Crafts homes were built in the 19th to early 20th century and focus on natural materials, skilled craftsmanship and harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape.<\/p>\n For more information go to the Banney Royd Facebook page at https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BanneyRoyd<\/a> and to book events it\u2019s the website at https:\/\/www.banneyroydhall.co.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n Banney Royd can be contacted by email\u00a0banneyroydevents@gmail.com<\/a>\u00a0or phone 07966 362627.<\/p>\n
