With Mortal Kombat II<\/em><\/a> <\/em>in movie theaters and Street Fighter<\/em><\/a> <\/em>coming soon, 2026 is a big year for film adaptations of fighting games. But even more are on the way.<\/p>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, a movie based on SNK’s Fatal Fury <\/em>is in the works at indie production banner The Arena. The company has commissioned a script from David S. Goyer (Foundation<\/em>, The Dark Knight <\/em>trilogy), which will tell the story of brothers Terry and Andy Bogard. In the original game, the pair are seeking vengeance against crime boss Geese Howard after he killed their adoptive father. And what better way to exact their vengeance than through a high-stakes combat tournament?<\/p>\n

Fatal Fury <\/em>is just one part of Arena’s larger plan to build out an entertainment franchise around South Town, a fictional American city where several of SNK’s games take place.<\/p>\n

Also in the works is the feature film Geese<\/em>, an origin story for Geese Howard that is reportedly inspired by The Godfather <\/em>and Joker<\/em>. Grant Singer (Netflix’s Reptile<\/em>) is set to write and direct.<\/p>\n

Arena’s plans for the world of South Town go beyond films. An animated Fatal Fury <\/em>series, titled Fatal Fury: The Vow<\/em>, is in development from Robert Kirkman’s Skybound, which also makes Invincible<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, webtoon author Brandon Chen is developing an Art of Fighting <\/em>webtoon, which will be the first of Arena’s South Town titles to be released.<\/p>\n
