Movie,\u201d the Nintendo sequel has shown the theatrical staying power of the most famous video game character of all time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">With this result, the \u201cMario\u201d franchise stands among the top 10 highest grossing animated franchises worldwide. Fellow Illumination franchise \u201cDespicable Me\u201d stands atop that list with $5.6 billion grossed from four main installments and two \u201cMinions\u201d spinoffs, with a third spinoff, \u201cMinions &amp; Monsters,\u201d coming to theaters this July.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie\u201d may be joined in the $1 billion club soon by Lionsgate\u2019s \u201cMichael,\u201d which Universal is handling international distribution on for most overseas markets. The Michael Jackson biopic is on the verge of crossing $900 million after its seventh weekend in theaters and should get over the mark with its upcoming release in Japan via Kino Films.
