More than 50 years after its release, many Eagles<\/a> fans believe \u201cThe Last Resort\u201d has taken on a much deeper meaning than originally intended. While songwriter Don Henley<\/strong><\/a> originally wrote the song as a warning about humanity\u2019s tendency to destroy what it treasures most, some now say the message feels even more relevant and heartbreaking than ever before.<\/p>\n In 1987, Henley told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> that \u201cThe Last Resort\u201d was one of his favorite songs the band had done. However, he acknowledged that it had some dark undertones.<\/p>\n He explained, \u201cThe gist of the song was that when we find something good, we destroy it by our presence \u2014 by the very fact that man is the only animal on Earth that is capable of destroying his environment.<\/p>\n Over the past few years, some fans have been struck by references in the song to places that later experienced devastating wildfires<\/a>. Listeners now revisit the song and hear it through a different lens.<\/p>\n \u201cI am deeply saddened, and couldn\u2019t block out the Eagles connection,\u201d one fan noted on Reddit<\/a> after the fire destroyed Lahaina, Hawaii.<\/p>\n On Facebook, another fan noted<\/a> that \u201cThe Last Resort\u201d says \u201cSoooo much in 7+ minutes!
