Druski brings \u2018Coulda Been Records\u2019 auditions to D.C. with viral White House-style promo<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\nDespite the short notice, hopeful performers lined up early for an opportunity to audition in front of Druski and his team.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got here yesterday at 5 o\u2019clock,\u201d one attendee said. \u201cI stayed in the parking lot all day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others arrived hours before the event began, determined to secure a spot.<\/p>\n
Participants showcased a variety of talents, including singing, dancing and live performances, hoping to stand out and earn recognition from the social media star and his team.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m here trying to perform and represent my city,\u201d said Immanuel Cooper. \u201cI\u2019m trying to put on for D.C.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Druski arrived, the crowd erupted in cheers, turning the audition into a celebration of local creativity and community.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like this brings people together for real,\u201d said Kellen Payne, an artist from Prince George\u2019s County who auditioned at the event. \u201cEverybody\u2019s here networking with each other, everyone\u2019s supporting each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
What began as a talent search quickly evolved into a gathering place for artists, creators and fans from across the DMV region. Cowboy Tubbs with the D.C. Office of Television said events like these help elevate the area\u2019s creative community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important for the DMV, period,\u201d Tubbs said. \u201cIt puts us on the map. We got so many talented folks here.\u201d Tubbs added that many artists in the region often feel overlooked compared to larger entertainment hubs.<\/p>\n
\u201cD.C. has so much talent and a lot of times we get overlooked because we\u2019re not a hub for artistry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
For many performers, simply having the chance to present their work to Druski\u2019s team was a memorable experience.<\/p>\n
Local artist Janae Music said she impressed judges with her vocal performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI walked in, introduced myself and started singing, and then he said, \u2018You\u2019re too good,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Payne described his audition as surreal.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt felt surreal,\u201d he said. \u201cI was getting to show off my talent and getting to see celebrities. It was crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Members of Druski\u2019s team said they were impressed by both the turnout and the enthusiasm of local performers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels really good,\u201d said Solo Hedd-Williams, a member of Druski\u2019s 4Lifers team. \u201cTo come out and see all this love and what we built, it looks wonderful. D.C. brought the energy.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked what qualities stand out during auditions, Hedd-Williams said entertainers need to command attention.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve got to be able to steal the show,\u201d he said. \u201cDruski loves working with talent \u2014 a lot of different talents.\u201d<\/p>\n
City officials also welcomed the production and the attention it brought to the District\u2019s creative scene.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny kind of production, we like to be here, be visible and let people know we support it,\u201d said Lakeisha Wells of the D.C. Office of Cable Television. \u201cWe thank them for highlighting our city.\u201d<\/p>\n
Whether performers received a callback or not, many attendees said the event\u2019s biggest success was shining a spotlight on local artists and proving there is an audience for DMV talent.<\/p>\n
Organizers and supporters said the message was simple: keep creating, keep showing up and keep believing there is room for local talent to succeed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
