Comedian and former late-night talk show host Craig Ferguson<\/a> is reflecting on his much-buzzed-about decision to refrain from making jokes<\/a> about Britney Spears<\/a> some 19 years ago, noting he believed his job may have been on the line as a result. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Appearing on the Daily Beast\u2019s \u201cObsessed\u201d podcast<\/a> over the weekend, Ferguson was asked about his Feb. 19, 2007, monologue<\/a> on \u201cThe Late Late Show,\u201d in which he urged viewers to find comedy in \u201cattacking the powerful,\u201d including members of Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s family, rather than \u201cvulnerable\u201d individuals like Spears, who appeared<\/a> to be in the throes<\/a> of a mental health crisis. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhat surprises me about that monologue is that I thought I would get fired … but I didn\u2019t care,\u201d he said. \u201cMy late-night show is much bigger now than it was when I was doing it. And when I did that, I thought, \u2018They\u2019re going to shit-can\u2014they\u2019ll never renew my contract after this.\u2019 But I thought, \u2018Fuck it, I just don\u2019t want to do this anymore.
