As Eurovision fans gear up to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the iconic song contest, Spotify is diving into the data to explore how listeners engage with the songs and artists that have come out of the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Year after year, Eurovision remains a beloved cultural moment. In the past 12 months alone, listeners in Europe have created more than 1.2 million playlists inspired by the contest and streamed its song entries more than 1.5 billion times.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event unfolds throughout May in Vienna\u2014the home city of 2025\u2019s winner, <\/span>JJ<\/b><\/a>\u2014with the finals set for Saturday, May 16.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eurovision\u2019s biggest hits\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

\u201c<\/span>Arcade<\/span><\/a>\u201d by Dutch artist <\/span>Duncan Laurence<\/b><\/a> is the most popular Eurovision song entry, with more than <\/span>1.5 billion streams globally. Claiming the number two spot is <\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/i>SNAP<\/span><\/a>\u201d<\/span><\/i> by Armenia\u2019s <\/span>Rosa Linn<\/b><\/a>\u2014a <\/span>Billions Club<\/span><\/a> hit that placed 20th in the competition but captured the hearts of fans around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s not the only non-winning song to make waves. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Deslocado<\/span><\/a>\u201d by Portugal\u2019s <\/span>NAPA<\/b><\/a> placed <\/span>21st in 2025, but after sparking a social media trend, it became the most-streamed track from that year\u2019s contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

          While there\u2019s no exact formula for a winning Eurovision song, that unpredictability is part of what keeps bringing fans back. However, <\/span>we looked across every Eurovision winner to date and found a few patterns that might explain their magic.<\/span><\/p>\n

          According to our data, the most common tempo for a Eurovision winning entry is <\/span>127 beats per minute (BPM)\u2014striking a sweet spot between high-energy danceability and emotional groove.<\/span><\/p>\n

          Meanwhile, the <\/span>key<\/span><\/i> to success is most often F major, paired with a classic 4\/4 time signature.<\/span><\/p>\n

          By these measures, Ireland\u2019s 1987 winner \u201c<\/span>Hold Me Now<\/span><\/a>\u201d by <\/span>Johnny Logan<\/b><\/a> comes the closest to the \u201cperfect\u201d Eurovision song, meeting nearly all the criteria, with a tempo landing one beat shy at 126 BPM.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
