After four years of non-stop touring, Gracie Abrams didn\u2019t expect new music to come to her so quickly. But she\u2019s back with a new album, Daughter From Hell<\/em>, out July 17\u2014and she talks about it in Vogue<\/em>\u2019s Summer 2026 cover story<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI had no plans in this case to jump in as quickly as we ended up doing it. But my collaborator, producer, and dear friend Aaron Dessner, who I’ve worked with for six years now\u2026 he has superpowers,\u201d Abrams tells senior editor Marley Marius and Vogue<\/em>\u2019s global head of social media, Sam Sussman. \u201cWhenever we\u2019re in the same room, even if I do feel, like, silent to my core, whenever he starts playing something, it sparks my imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n While working on the album at Electric Lady Studios in New York, Abrams says the first single, \u201cHit the Wall,\u201d<\/a> came to her as though from a spirit. \u201cDo you know when you sometimes wake up and you feel as if you\u2019re being haunted by a spirit? Or, like, a relative who’s no longer [alive]?\u201d asks Abrams. \u201cI kind of just felt weighed down when I was walking to the studio and I started tearing up. And it was at this period where I wasn\u2019t crying very much. And I was like, something\u2019s blocking me. Like, what is going on?\u201d<\/p>\n Abrams says that once she heard a loop of what would later become the song, all the pieces started coming together. \u201cIt was a nice place to put all of these\u2014not, like, self-deprecating thoughts, but just all of the dark-cloud energy into one place.
