This month, Harmony Tividad releases Lifetime<\/em>, the followup to her sleazy electro-pop masterpiece Gossip<\/a><\/em>. So far she’s previewed Lifetime<\/em> with “Where Strangers Go<\/a>,” “Anything<\/a>,” “Apple Pie<\/a>,” and “I’m Still Learning How To Leave You<\/a>,” all of which reverberate with the introspective indie pop of her Girlpool days. Now, she’s back with another one called “Best Dressed.”<\/p>\n “[Director] Caroline [Iaffaldano] and I were inspired by vintage bandstand videos and wanted to capture the energy of those old performances. The 1960s television stage becomes a metaphor for the performance of femininity, existing in a world built around spectacle and perception.”<\/p>\n The lyrics are half-clever, half-gloomy, like when she calls herself a “bootleg celebrity.” Then there are lines that just sort of knock you down: “Beauty serves me but it demands\/ A lot of things I don’t understand.” Ouch!
