Pittsburgh is getting a jump on celebrating America’s 250th anniversary<\/a> with a sold-out show headlined by American rapper Nelly and rock band Third Eye Blind.<\/p>\n The show, part of America250PA’s free concert series<\/a>, is scheduled for the week before Independence Day and is part of a years-long effort to celebrate not only America’s 250th anniversary<\/a>, but also Pennsylvania’s role in the country’s formation.<\/p>\n Here’s what to know about the upcoming show.<\/p>\n Nelly and Third Eye Blind are set to headline America250PA’s sold-out stop in Pittsburgh on Saturday, June 27.<\/p>\n They’ll be joined by special guest Frzy at Point State Park for a concert focused on celebrating educators and innovators.<\/p>\n Happening near Pittsburgh: <\/strong>Sewickley unveils first borough flag at America 250 celebration<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n The concert is part of a free series, though America250PA’s website shows the venue has already reached capacity. See the event website<\/a> for more details and to check for updates.<\/p>\n The America250PA free concert series kicked off in University Park on May 23 and is scheduled to end in Pittsburgh, with stops in Erie, Hershey and Wilkes-Barre.<\/p>\n In addition to Pittsburgh’s performances, headliners in the series include Cole Swindell, The Fray, The Avett Brothers and Lady A, with special guests Gabby Barrett, the West Point Band, First to Eleven, Mike Patton, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, En Vogue and Carson Kressley.<\/p>\n The concert series is one of the numerous events America250PA has planned to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and the Commonwealth’s role in the country’s foundation.<\/p>\n Planning for these celebrations kicked off all the way back in 2018, when Pennsylvania’s legislature and governor established the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial, or America250PA, to commemorate both the United State’s 250th anniversary and Pennsylvania’s part in it, according to the commission’s website<\/a>. In 2021, it became the official state partner of the America 250 national effort.<\/p>\n Pittsburgh will see more concerts celebrating Independence Day, with another free series scheduled for Saturday, July 4 at the City of Pittsburgh Independence Day Celebration<\/a>.
