YouTube star Jesse Ridgway<\/strong> offered more insight into the decision he and wife Ashley Ridgway<\/strong> made to get an abortion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were confronting the scenario of having the baby, and playing out every possible scenario about what it would look like and how we would make it work, what happens if they have these health problems, and need these surgeries,\u201d Jesse, 33, told People<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Wednesday, June 10. \u201cIt was so real to us. I wish people could empathize with us, and know this wasn\u2019t some black and white decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jesse announced earlier this month that he and Ashley, 31, decided to terminate their pregnancy<\/a> after receiving a fetal Down syndrome diagnosis. While they\u2019ve been subject to a barrage of public backlash, Jesse said on Wednesday that private supporters have also rallied around the couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been making content for 20 years, so we\u2019ve seen hate before. But not to this degree,\u201d Jesse told People<\/em>, noting that they\u2019ve gotten a huge response to Ashley\u2019s abortion.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery second is a new death threat towards me and my wife,\u201d he added. \u201cThe amount of private support we\u2019ve received is also overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jesse continued, \u201cFor any couple who has gone through a decision [like] this, it never leaves your mind. Years from now, I\u2019ll be thinking about it. But we\u2019ve had people we\u2019ve known for years suddenly feel comfortable with sharing their own abortion stories with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though there\u2019s a mix between hate and support, Jesse said he understands both sides.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so many facets to this subject, from a political or religious standpoint, or everyone wants to have a family or is a part of one,\u201d he said. \u201cIt has ignited a reaction from every corner of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
