Zac Efron<\/a> is building his sustainable dream home in Australia!<\/p>\nThe High School Musical <\/em>alum, 38, is currently working on the eco-conscious build, which he’s dubbed \u201cFutureCave,\u201d with Dutch-Australian designer Joost Bakker<\/a>. Efron’s unique home is coming to life an hour outside of Byron Bay in New South Wales, years after he purchased a\u00a0128-hectare plot of land there in 2020, local outlet the Australian Financial Review<\/a> previously reported.<\/p>\nAccording to the outlet, the build will mostly be made out of hemp, including the internal bricks and joinery. The plant will be sourced from a farm in southern New South Wales. Other pieces in the home, from Efron’s mattress to the curtains and pillows, will also reportedly be derived from hemp.<\/p>\n
Bakker has been sharing updates on the construction process for Efron’s new home to his Instagram account, including in a May 8 Instagram<\/a> post in which he revealed they were officially getting to work.<\/p>\n\u201cExcited to get started on Zac’s house!\u201d Bakker wrote in the caption alongside a photo of him posing with the actor and their partners on the project.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nJoost Bakker and Zac Efron

Most recently, the designer shared another update through a joint Instagram post with Plantbord, a company that describes its product as \u201ca particle board made from materials that restore soil health + the health of the people working and living with it,\u201d per its Instagram<\/a> account.<\/p>\nAccording to the May 22 Instagram<\/a> post’s caption, Efron’s home will be made using 200 of the sustainable boards to construct the \u201ckitchen and bathroom joinery.\u201d<\/p>\nPer the Australian Financial Review,<\/em> the area in which Efron, Bakker and their team are building the star’s home features a lush virgin rainforest, 500-year-old cedar trees and serene waterfalls.<\/p>\nThe home will reportedly boast six “bedroom pods\u201d that are connected by an outdoor walkway, with each pod having its own bathroom and rooftop garden. There will also be a large living area located on the property.<\/p>\n
Efron opened up to the outlet about why he chose to construct such a unique abode in Australia, noting that the property might become \u201cthe coolest house ever built.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI live a pretty fast-paced life and work quite a bit, so in between movies and press tours, my number one goal is always to take time for myself and rest and recharge and to be in nature as much as possible, and as close to the earth as I can, and this land just feels like it’s perfect for that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
