Harbour previously avoided commenting on the split,<\/a> telling GQ in April that \u201cthere\u2019s no use in that form of engaging [with tabloid news] because it\u2019s all based on hysterical hyperbole.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He also said kissing and telling about Allen would just add to \u201ca salacious shitshow of humiliation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A few months later, Harbour is more open to discussing the album, but chose his words carefully in his Variety interview, especially about how it felt to be the supposed inspiration for Allen\u2019s critically acclaimed recording.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cIt was weird,\u201d Harbour admitted, before taking the high road about respecting the artistic process. \u201cI do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Harbour said he really couldn\u2019t \u201csay that much more because it\u2019s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don\u2019t allow me a private life \u2014 I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won\u2019t speak about that.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Although Variety gave Harbour a chance to correct the record on any claims made by Allen on her album or comment like the one she made in March on her podcast<\/a> that men like \u201cyoung dumb\u201d women and will \u201cleave you for a 20-year-old\u201d when the physical attraction fades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cStories are complex,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn\u2019t my experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
