Reparto is Cuba\u2019s hidden musical gem that today is getting its long overdue international spotlight.<\/p>\n
More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n Powered by its blend of reggaeton, hip hop, timba, rumba and the signature Cuban clave, reparto (named after the barrios or housing projects in Cuba) has captivated the musical taste buds of people around the globe in recent years.<\/p>\n Part of that success is due to the current viral song, \u201cDichavate,\u201d by Ya Ice Dilan, Helabusador and Rey Tony that has amassed nearly 10 million video creations on TikTok alone since its release date last Christmas Eve.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a song that if you\u2019re sad, it serves you in your sadness; if you\u2019re happy, it serves you in your happiness,\u201d Helabusador previously told Billboard<\/a>. \u201cIt is a very emotional song. It has something that connects. The song has magic.\u201d<\/p>\n That precise magic has also connected with artists such as Maluma, who reacted to the cheeky and provocative reparto track on TikTok: \u201cQue hp vicio,\u201d he said, which translates to \u201cwhat a hell of an addiction.\u201d<\/p>\n But long before today\u2019s \u201cDichavate\u201d craze, reparto music traces back to the mid-2000s thanks to its first exponents such as the late Elvis Manuel (who tragically drowned in 2008 as he migrated to the U.S. by raft), Adonis MC, El Uniko and, most notably, Chocolate MC, who ultimately blessed the movement as \u201creparto.\u201d<\/p>\n Since 2018 \u2014 when public WiFi hotspots were made more accessible on the island \u2014 a new wave of artists there have used social media to bring to the forefront the genre that was once considered \u201creggaet\u00f3n of the poor,\u201d but today represents the sound of modern-day Cuba.<\/p>\n Below, see a list of artists who are obsessed with reparto music, including a few who have even experimented with it:<\/p>\n Bad Gyal<\/p>\n Bad Gyal is one of the first international stars to talk about her love for reparto music. As someone who\u2019s from Spain \u2014 one of the top three countries where reparto music is mostly consumed \u2014 the singer told Billboard at the 2025 Premio Lo Nuestro red carpet<\/a> that she listens to the Cuban genre when getting ready for an awards show.<\/p>\n This January, she was one of the very first artists to react to \u201cDichavate\u201d on TikTok, months before it blew up on social media: \u201cwhat does this music have?\u201d she captioned the video<\/a>, where she\u2019s seen singing the song. Bad Gyal has also been spotted performing to the song during her M\u00e1s Cara World Tour that kicked off this March in Spain.<\/p>\n Daddy Yankee<\/p>\n On his 2025 album and debut Christian set, Lamento en Baile, Daddy Yankee did not hold back from experimenting with the tropical-infused urban rhythm. Co-produced by Cuban hitmakers La Companioni and Nando Pro, who are behind the hits of Gente de Zona and the late El Taiger, to name a few, \u201cToy Hermoso<\/a>\u201d is primarily a salsaton that later transitions to a reparto beat. The Puerto Rican artist briefly spoke about tapping into the genre during the star Q&A at Billboard Latin Music Week last year.<\/p>\n Last August, El Alfa hopped on the bandwagon, teaming up with Bebeshito, one of the genre\u2019s biggest exponents today. In their first collaborative effort, the artists dropped \u201cROPOPOCHO,\u201d a track produced by Roberto Ferrante for Planet Records that finds the Dominican artist steering away from his signature dembow sound into the world of reparto music.<\/p>\n Greeicy<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Greeicy surprised her 13 million-plus followers on TikTok with a sultry dance<\/a> to \u201cDichavate,\u201d where she\u2019s seen wearing a baby blue beret, color-blocked tank top and baggy jeans as she\u2019s swaying her hips. \u201cQue sabrosura la que tiene el reparto. Mucha C A N D E L A,\u201d she said, which translates to \u201creparto has such amazing flavor.\u201d<\/p>\n Lenny Tav\u00e1rez has been supporting Cuban artists who do reparto music for three years now. One of his first collaborations was in 2023 with Wampi \u2014 one of Billboard\u2019s Latin Artists to Watch<\/a> in 2026 \u2014 on \u201cMaleante (Remix).\u201d Last Spring, he teamed up with Cuban duo Charly & Johayron for \u201cI Love U Mai,\u201d an afrobeats-tinged reparto produced by T\u00e1varez\u2019s longtime producer King Swift. The Puerto Rican star also guests on Cuban artist\u2019s Wow Popy\u2019s forthcoming album, Mundial, releasing later this year.<\/p>\n Latin hitmaker Maffio has been a longtime cheerleader of the Cuban genre, first dropping the hard-hitting, viral reparto track \u201cNosotros\u201d in collaboration with L Kimii, Nacho and DJ Conds, and later teaming up with Wampi on \u201cTalentosa,\u201d part of Wampi\u2019s debut studio album El Rey de la Habana \u2014 both released in 2025. Earlier this year, the Dominican producer teased that a reparto remix of his seven-year-old mega hit, \u201cCristina,\u201d is in the horizon with Cuban artists Dale Pututi and Nesty.<\/p>\n Maluma<\/p>\n In a new thirst trap video<\/a>, Maluma shared a snippet of himself singing the viral \u201cDichavate\u201d while drenched in sweat in a sauna. Shirtless, messy hair and with a flirty smile, the Colombian superstar is seen singing part of the reparto song, while also captioning the video with: \u201cwhat an addiction.\u201d The provocative short clip has garnered nearly 25 million views on TikTok at time of publishing.<\/p>\n Nacho was reeled in for L Kimii, Maffio and DJ Conds\u2019 \u201cNosotros,\u201d released last spring through Plus Media Music. \u201cThe Dominican Republic has its dembow, Puerto Rico has its reggaet\u00f3n \u2014 today Colombia is taking over Afrobeat, and I think that\u2019s going to happen with Cuba as well,\u201d the Venezuelan artist previously said to Billboard<\/a>. \u201cReparto is a wealth of rhythms combined: there\u2019s son, there\u2019s salsa, there\u2019s timba, there\u2019s reggaet\u00f3n. There\u2019s a bit of everything, and I\u2019ve been in love with that genre for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n Though he has yet to experiment with reparto melodies, Nicky Jam is joining forces with Cuban artists who have done reparto music. This January, the Puerto Rican artist teamed up with Charly & Johayron on \u201cMagia,\u201d a sweet afrobeats track co-produced by Roberto Ferrante and El Bandolero. Additionally, the \u201cEl Perd\u00f3n\u201d singer will soon drop a collab with Cuban newcomer El Shadow, who in February went viral on Instagram for inviting Nicky<\/a> to jump on his song that will soon be released under Plus Media Music.<\/p>\n Spanish singer-songwriter, Omar Montes, hopped on not one, but two reparto songs this year: \u201cAlgo Bonito (Remix)\u201d with Nyno Vargas, Dany Ome y Kevincito El 13, and \u201cSecreto (Remix)\u201d with Payaso x Ley, Nyno Vargas, JEYY LUCAS, Richard Morales, and Elebbara \u2014 both released this month.<\/p>\n In April, Ozuna posted a short TikTok clip alongside repartero duo Dany Ome & Kevincito El 13 in a recording studio. The three artists shared a snippet of their first collaboration called \u201cPaciente.\u201d \u201cDesde ayer me considero un REPARTERO !!!! \u00d1ooo ahiiiii titaaaaa tuuu\u201d (since yesterday I consider myself a repartero) the Puerto Rican superstar expressed in the clip<\/a>, along with the Cuban slang \u201c\u00f1ooo,\u201d which can loosely be translated to \u201cwow!\u201d The official music video featuring all three artists premiered April 22.<\/p>\n Ryan Castro<\/p>\n Before his Colombian colleagues Maluma and Greeicy jumped on the \u201cDichavate\u201d bandwagon, Ryan Castro was already hooked with the track. Looking dapper in a navy blue sweater, the Colombian artist posted a clip<\/a> bopping his head and singing along to the viral tune. \u201cEs un vicioooooooooooo\u201d (it\u2019s so addictive), he captioned the video.<\/p>\n Sergio George<\/p>\n For his 2025 album, Ataca Sergio! Presents: Urban Salsa Sessions, Latin hitmaker Sergio George recruited Bebeshito \u2014 one of Billboard\u2019s 2026 Latin Artists to Watch \u2014 for \u201cLo Sabe<\/a>.\u201d The track is powered by Sergio\u2019s innovative salsa rhythm and Bebeshito\u2019s signature reparto sound.<\/p>\n Reggaet\u00f3n icon Tito El Bambino is not one to shy away from stepping outside his comfort zone.
