For his part, Malik\u2014who welcomed a daughter with Hadid in 2020\u2014previously admitted he wrote the single \u201cshortly after\u201d he left One Direction in March 2015 but resisted revealing its muse. But when it comes to looking back at his relationship with Edwards as a whole, Malik\u2014who claimed in 2024 following his relationships with both Edwards and Hadid he had \u201cnever been in love\u201d\u2014the \u201cBetter\u201d singer has admitted he was immature.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFrom 17 to 21, I was in a relationship,” Malik said in an interview with Nylon<\/em> published in 2024<\/a>. “I was engaged. I didn’t know anything about anything at that point. I thought I did, because I was 21. I was legally allowed to do everything, but I didn’t know s–t.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
