His younger brother, Jim, had passed just two months earlier on April 6, 2019, at age 81. Older brother Tompall Glaser died on August 13, 2013, at the age of 79.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to charting nine singles with his brothers, including the top 5 hit \u201cLovin\u2019 Her Was Easier (Than Anything I\u2019ll Ever Do Again),\u201d Chuck Glaser wrote songs for Hank Snow and Johnny Cash.  He also <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/musicrow.com\/2019\/06\/the-glaser-brothers-chuck-glaser-dies-at-83\/\">helped launch<\/a> the careers of various songwriters, including John Hartford, Jimmy Payne, Kinky Friedman, Buddy Starcher, and Willis D. Hoover.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-chuck-glaser-wrote-the-brothers-first-single\">Chuck Glaser Wrote The Brothers\u2019 First Single<\/h3>\n<p>Born February 27, 1936, in Spalding, Nebraska, Charles Vernon \u201cChuck\u201d Glaser spent his early years helping his father manage the family\u2019s 1,200-acre farm.<\/p>\n<p>He began performing with his brothers as a teenager, at first serving as the group\u2019s master of ceremonies and designated joke teller. Soon, he began singing.<\/p>\n<p>In 1957, the Glaser brothers caught the attention of acclaimed country singer-songwriter Marty Robbins after they won the Arthur Godfrey\u2019s Talent Show. The \u201cI\u2019ll Go On Alone\u201d crooner signed the brothers to his label, Robbins Records, and offered them a spot in his traveling act.<\/p>\n<p>Chuck wrote the trio\u2019s first single, \u201cFive Penny Nickel\u201d, released in 1958.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio  is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"\/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-finding-success-as-a-trio\">Finding Success as a Trio<\/h3>\n<p>In 1959, the Glaser brothers left Robbins\u2019 label for Decca Records. That same year, Chuck Glaser was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served until 1961, with childhood friend Joe Babcock <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theboot.com\/chuck-glaser-dead-dies\/\">briefly taking his place<\/a> in the trio.<\/p>\n<p>During this time, the Glaser Brothers had become highly sought-after background singers in Nashville. They accompanied Robbins on several records, including \u201cShe Was Only Seventeen\u201d, along with Roy Orbison\u2019s \u201cLeah\u201d and Claude King\u2019s \u201cThe Comancheros.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can also hear them on Johnny Cash\u2019s chart-topping hit \u201cRing of Fire\u201d, and they toured with both the Man in Black and Patsy Cline. <\/p>\n<p>The Glaser Brothers earned numerous awards across the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, including CMA Vocal Group of the Year\u00a0in 1970. Their charting singles included \u201cGone, on the Other Hand,\u201d \u201cCalifornia Girl (and the Tennessee Square)\u201d and \u201cThe Moods of Mary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group took a hiatus from 1973 to 1978, when each brother pursued their own individual careers. They reunited in 1979 and released several singles and two albums, including a 1982 rendition of the Kris Kristofferson-penned \u00a0\u201cLoving Her was Easier (Than Anything I\u2019ll Ever Do Again)\u201d. The song spent two weeks at number two on the <em>Billboard<\/em> country charts.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-after-the-glaser-brothers\">After the Glaser Brothers<\/h3>\n<p>Outside of their music career, Chuck Glaser owned and ran Nashville\u2019s Glaser Sound Studios with his brothers.
