As ever, we’re bringing you ten of the week’s best new releases via our Discovery Playlist on Apple Music and Spotify. Proud Kamilaroi/Samoan artist Becca Hatch takes out of Track of the Week with her excellent new single, “Daylight Robbery”.

A fusion of R&B, electronic textures, and a bold pop production “Daylight Robbery” makes sure that the momentum around Hatch isn’t slowing down any and ensures she’s included in plenty of conversations around the most compelling new voices coming through in the country.

The single explores the contradiction of being unable to let go of someone who still holds power over you. It’s a song about desire, memory and the dangerous pull of chemistry and charisma. Dramatic and dynamic, “Daylight Robbery” pulls of the perfect balancing act between emotional storytelling, artistry and a strong pop sensibility.

Also on the playlist this week we have “Kitty Cat”, the new single from Naarm/Melbourne-via-Yorta Yorta Country multi-hyphenate provocateur Robert Baker. Drawing upon the history, community and culture of ballroom “Kitty Cat” is an injection of sparkle, sass and star power. Talking about the single, Baxter shared ‘KITTY CAT is about the wild side, at this point in my life, I don’t need a person to be sensible and pay for things and tame me, I want someone who isn’t afraid to feel big things, and make my body PURR’. “Kitty Cat” is bold, brash, a little bit feral, built to be played live and loud, and just pure pop quality.

Pain Gain are the Australian trio of Chloe Kaul (Kllo), Hamish Lefevre (SWIM) and Samuel Cooke (CRUSH3d), stepping away from their electronic roots for something more raw, intimate and expansive. New single “Prizefighter” is beautifully vulnerable and haunting, a slow-burning cut built from reversed tape loops that swells into a devastating portrait of holding on long after you should have let go.

Fanny Lumsden reminds us what a truly gifted songwriter she is with “Difficult Woman”, an ever-so-beautiful new single recorded live in one take with just Fanny and her acoustic guitar, its rawness only making it hit harder as she reframes the label as something powerful: “Difficult woman, you’re the point not the prize.”

Always brilliant live, Fanny is also heading out on her aptly named ONLY FANS: Story Club tour from early July, taking the intimate solo show everywhere from Coledale Community Hall in NSW to Flowerdale Hall in VIC, with more dates still to come. Head HERE for all the dates and tickets.

Sylvan Esso are back this week with new music – their first for 2026 – and it promises to be like you’ve never heard them before. “Hot Slob” is described as ‘proudly messy’, and it’s an unabashed invitation to a loud, heated, hair down party. It’s all about embracing the spirit and chaos of living in the modern world, the glitch. Whilst they might be sounding messier and more pointed than ever before, there is still a sense of familiarity there, that lyrical and musical push and pull we’ve come to expect from them. “Hot Slob” is promising to usher in a new chapter of creativity and artistic freedom – it’s off to an impressive start.

Also returning is Kate Miller-Heidke, with “Holiday”, an irresistibly fun and gloriously chaotic slice of observational pop that nails the curse of needing a break so badly you somehow end up ruining it. The video leans fully into that playful energy — a reminder of just how magnetic she is as a performer — and how stressful holidays can be. It will leave you with a smile on your face, and perhaps bring back a few unwanted memories!

The single arrives alongside the announcement of her new album The Kiss and The Abyss, due August 14, with Miller-Heidke also set to take the record on the road for a run of intimate Australian album launch shows across August and September.

Holly Throsby returns with “Hold Please”, a beautifully intimate new single featuring Laura Jean, and the first taste of her seventh studio album Normal Magic, out September 4. All the hallmarks of Throsby’s writing are here — the emotional precision, the quiet ache, the lyrical detail — now wrapped in more expansive, synth-led textures that Laura Jean perfectly described as a “huge sapphic chamber” of sound.

“No hay amor que nos salve” is the new single from the excellently named Argentines Buenos Vampiros, the first to be taken from their forthcoming fourth studio album El último disparo. For those not in the know, the band formed in 2018 and have swiftly become one of the most compelling acts within the contemporary alternative scene in Argentina, with this new single coming off the back of some sustained international touring. By all accounts, “No hay amor que nos salve” sees the band moving into slightly darker territory; but it’s this wonderful blend of post-punk, new wave and dream pop. You’ve got sharp edged guitars, over moody melancholic atmospherics and a tightly coiled emotional centre. It’s a really captivating listen.

Joining them on the playlist are The Healing Power of Horses, an enigmatic East Anglian duo whose music defies easy categorisation. “In Yr Right Hand Reveal Heaven” is the second single from their freshly announced debut EP Summer Indoors (or outside wearing black) – out July 17th. It’s really compelling – glitchy, lurching, kind of industrial, kind of haunting, ritualistic; but delivered with a real polish and assured sense of style. Loved it.

Finally, we have the video premiere of “Cry Wolf” from Fountain Lakes.

Catch all the new music updated every Friday on Apple Music:

and on Spotify:

Here’s the complete list of new additions this week:

Becca Hatch “Daylight Robbery”
Robert Baxter “Kitty Cat”
Fanny Lumsden “Difficult Woman”
Pain Gain “Prizefighter”
Sylvan Esso “Hot Slob”
Kate Miller-Heidke “Holiday”
Holly Throsby “Hold Please (ft. Laura Jean)”
Buenos Vampiros “No hay amor que nos salve”
The Healing Power of Horses “In Yr Right Hand Reveal Heaven”
Fountain Lakes “Cry Wolf” [Exclusive Video Premiere]

Header Image Supplied

Related Posts:

New Music Discoveries 5th September: Fanny Lumsden, The Rions, Austra, and more

Interview: Fanny Lumsden, fresh from Glastonbury, talks new album Hey…

Photo Gallery: Fanny Lumsden and the Prawn Stars – Deaf Institute,…

New Music Discoveries 12th April: Ben Kidson, Highline, Aaron Frazer and more

New Music Discoveries 12th July: Hayley Mary, Annie Hamilton, The…

New Music Discoveries 12th December: Cry Club, Full Flower Moon Band,…

‘ The preceding article may include information circulated by third parties ’

‘ Some details of this article were extracted from the following source www.theaureview.com ’

Whilst everyone else is turning their attention to North America for the World Cup, we’re keeping things focused firmly on the best new music being released.
