Not every comedian is thrilled to find themselves on the receiving end of a punchline.<\/p>\n
During a recent appearance on Vulture\u2019s Good One<\/em><\/a> podcast, comedian Wanda Sykes<\/a> recalled an awkward encounter with Bill Maher<\/a> following January\u2019s Golden Globes ceremony, where a joke she delivered at his expense apparently struck a nerve.<\/p>\n Her joke was simple: \u201cBill Maher, you give us so much, but I would love a little less. Just try less.\u201d<\/p>\n According to Sykes, Maher wasted no time in confronting her as he shared words with her in the parking lot of the awards ceremony after the event to complain about the gag, only to end up proving her point in the process.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, he stopped me out in the parking lot,\u201d recounted Sykes. \u201cWe were waiting for our cars. And he was like, \u2018What was that about?\u2019 I was like, \u2018It\u2019s a joke, Bill.\u2019 He was like, \u2018Well, I mean, it wasn\u2019t even a joke.\u2019 I said, \u2018Oh, no, I heard laughter. It was clearly a joke.’\u201d<\/p>\n Sykes then did an impression of Maher stumbling over his words, \u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018But I don\u2019t\u2026I don\u2019t..but, I mean, I don\u2019t, but still\u2026I mean, it\u2019s not even a joke. It was just like\u2026\u2019 I said, \u2018See? You\u2019re doing exactly what we said in the joke! We need less of this! You epitomize the joke. Less of this!\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe didn\u2019t care for it,\u201d laughed Sykes.<\/p>\n She explained that Maher told her he received criticism from his fans and that he was \u201cgetting a lot of texts and people are saying, \u2018What was that?\u2019 and \u2018It was a stupid joke.’\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd when he said \u2018stupid,\u2019 I said, \u2018Okay, now you\u2019re gonna get it,’\u201d revealed Sykes. \u201cI was like, \u2018Well, I got a lot of texts telling me how great it was and how they don\u2019t like you, and it was really funny. I guess, you know, that\u2019s the problem. You\u2019re watching Fox News, and I\u2019m over here on MSNBC. See?\u2019 And then he asked me to be on his podcast.
