The Kansas City Royals<\/a> have provided an update on Seth Lugo<\/a> after the veteran pitcher exited Wednesday\u2019s 6-4 loss to the Texas Rangers<\/a> following a frightening injury at Kauffman Stadium. Lugo was removed from the game after getting hit in the head by a comebacker.<\/p>\n

The Royals announced on X that Lugo was doing well and would undergo the appropriate testing and medical protocols after a line drive struck him in the forehead during the fourth inning. Lugo entered Wednesday looking to continue another strong season in Kansas City<\/a>\u2019s rotation.<\/p>\n

The right-hander entered the game with a 6-4 record, a 3.03 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts in 89 innings over 14 starts. He held the Rangers to one run over 3.1 innings while allowing three hits, walking one batter, and striking out three.<\/p>\n

The game changed in the fourth inning when Brandon Nimmo<\/a> stepped to the plate. On a full-count pitch, Nimmo lined the ball straight back toward the mound. The ball left the bat at 106.6 mph and struck Lugo on the left side of his forehead.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old immediately fell to the ground as trainers and players from both teams rushed to his aid. Nimmo, who played alongside Lugo with the New York Mets<\/a>, reached first base and immediately turned his attention toward the pitcher.<\/p>\n

Royals trainers rushed onto the field as a large swelling formed on Lugo\u2019s forehead. Fortunately, Lugo got back to his feet and walked off the field on his own. The Royals then sent him for further evaluation, including a CT scan.<\/p>\n

Kansas City will wait for the results of his tests before determining his next steps, but the initial update offered hope that Lugo avoided a more serious injury after taking a direct line drive to the head.<\/p>\n

After the game, manager Matt Quatraro said the play looked scary at first, especially when Lugo went down. However, he felt encouraged once Lugo began talking with trainers and responding normally. The injury ended Lugo\u2019s outing, and Mason Black<\/a> entered from the bullpen to replace him. Kansas City continued to battle after losing Lugo.<\/p>\n
