The “Lion” sleeps tonight but roars into action Friday when tickets go on sale for the return of “The Lion King”<\/a> in October to the Saenger Theatre<\/a>.<\/p>\n The stage version of the Disney animated blockbuster, still running on Broadway, returns for a three-week run starting Oct. 21 through Nov. 8.<\/p>\n Shows will run Tuesdays through most Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n The winner of six Tony Awards, including best musical, “The Lion King”<\/a> features innovative staging and puppetry by double winner Julie Taymor to tell the story of a young cub who witnesses his father’s death at the hands of his uncle, leaves the pride and returns for the emotional climax.<\/p>\n The music blends the score by Sir Elton John and Tim Rick with South African music and lyrics, with elements of the film thrown in, including the Oscar-winning “Can You Fell The Love Tonight.”<\/p>\n With “elephants” walking through the aisles, “birds” soaring over the audience and dancing “grasslands,” the show has played locally at the Saenger and Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts to packed houses.
