More details about Top Gun: Maverick<\/em> star James Handy<\/strong>\u2019s cause of death have been revealed.<\/p>\n

A new report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, obtained by TMZ<\/a> on Friday, June 12, confirmed that Handy died from a stab wound to the torso. The actor also suffered \u201cneck compression.\u201d<\/p>\n

A neck compression, also known as cervical myelopath, can be caused by \u201cnatural changes to your body as you age\u201d or by pressure against the spinal cord in the neck, according to the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>. It can cause neck pain, muscle weakness and numbness.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Police Department previously confirmed that they responded to a call at Handy\u2019s home on June 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 911 caller stated, \u2018I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,\u2019\u201d a statement from the police department read earlier this month. \u201cUpon their arrival, officers discovered 81-year-old James Handy in the front yard of the residence, unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handy was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead<\/a>, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

Michael Gledhill<\/strong>, the son of Handy\u2019s longtime partner<\/a>, Wendy Gledhill<\/strong>, was taken into police custody following the actor\u2019s death. The LAPD statement claimed that Michael, 44, \u201cflagged down nearby responding officers\u201d after Handy\u2019s murder and told them that \u201che was the one they were looking for.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe suspect resides at the location with his mother, who is the victim\u2019s girlfriend,\u201d the LAPD statement concluded. \u201cDetectives believe this is an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
