While they never planned to record their version of the 1970 Osborne Brothers classic \u201cRuby\u201d (which has also been recorded by Buck Owens), that changed when the Grand Ole Opry came calling. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLast summer, Opry members Dailey &amp; Vincent were asked to take part in a tribute to the Obsorne Brothers and Jim &amp; Jesse, where the Opry recreated the its final show at the Ryman Auditorium in March 1974, before the famed venue moved to its current location at the Opry House.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThey wanted us to read the teleprompter and say exactly what the Osborne Brothers and Jim &amp; Jesse said on that night on WSM Radio, and \u2018Ruby\u2019 was one of the options they sent for us to sing, because the Osborne Brothers had sang it that night,\u201d Dailey recalls. \u201cWhen we walked out there and sang it, the audience\u2019s reaction from the first note was overwhelming. We came offstage and decided we would record it. But that song will never be recorded or performed as good as Bobby and Sonny of the Osborne Brothers. It can\u2019t be done. This was our best effort to honor them the best way we could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOn Dailey &amp; Vincent\u2019s version, which opens <em>A Beautiful Life<\/em>, Dailey\u2019s unmistakable high tenor lead vocal is enchanting, at one point holding a full-throated, crystalline high note for about 18 seconds. \u201cAll I know was I was holding on for dear life,\u201d Dailey says. \u201cFor me, personally, I was scared of it because of how high you have to sing it, and you can\u2019t sing those notes falsetto \u2014 you have to sing it full voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTheir new album also highlights songs written by well-known musical friends and colleagues, including Dolly Parton, Bill Anderson and Carrie Underwood. \u201cI look at the songwriters on this record and I\u2019m almost embarrassed, [they] have written Mercedes and Maserati [caliber] songs, and my songs are like tricycle songs,\u201d Dailey chuckles modestly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnderson, Underwood and Jon Randall wrote the title track, while the album also includes a version of the Bruce Hornsby and John Hornsby-written \u201cJacob\u2019s Ladder,\u201d originally recorded by Huey Lewis and the News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe Parton-penned \u201cSmoky Mountain Memories,\u201d was originally recorded under the title \u201cAppalachian Memories\u201d on Parton\u2019s 1983 album <em>Burlap &amp; Satin<\/em>. Parton later recorded it as \u201cSmoky Mountain Memories\u201d on the 1994 live album <em>Heartsongs: Live From Home<\/em>. When Dailey brought the song to Vincent as a possibility for the album, Vincent was already very familiar with it. \u201cJamie had picked that one out and I said, \u2018Man, I\u2019ve already recorded that with Dolly on that <em>Heartsongs<\/em> album,\u2019\u201d Vincent recalls, noting he sang harmonies on the album.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAnother standout song that made its way onto <em>A Beautiful Life<\/em> is \u201cWhen I Meet My Maker,\u201d a solo write from singer-songwriter Tenille Townes. \u201cAt the publishing meeting, \u2018Meet My Maker\u2019 came on and I made them play it three more times,\u201d Dailey says. \u201cI\u2019m the kind of guy, when I listen to songs, I have to listen to it multiple times to make sure all the nuggets are in the song that I think are there. I was in tears and was like, \u2018We have to record this.\u2019 Darrin loved it, and it\u2019s been moving our audiences onstage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDailey contributed two songs on the album, including the stunning solo write \u201cI\u2019ll Keep Going,\u201d which he crafted specifically with Vincent in mind. \u201cDarrin has certain songs and styles that he likes to sing, and not everybody writes songs in that style that are new,\u201d Dailey says. \u201cWe can find plenty that have already been written and recorded, but I wanted him to have something fresh and new to sing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAdds Vincent: \u201c\u2019I\u2019ll Keep Going\u2019 is going to be another bluegrass standard, in my opinion. It\u2019s just a great mid-tempo song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThey credit their manager, Morris Higham Management\u2019s Robert Filhart, for helping them source songs for the album. \u201cHe\u2019s one of the best songsters in Nashville,\u201d Dailey says. \u201cHe\u2019s worked in publishing and been around the greatest writers. We would never have gotten to some of those songs if it had not been for Robert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe album also includes \u201cI Grew Up in Heaven,\u201d written by Josh Kear and Country Music Hall of Famer Don Schlitz \u2014 a song made more poignant given that Schlitz, known for songs including \u201cForever and Ever, Amen,\u201d passed away in April.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHis wife had texted Robert [Filhart] and said this was the last cut,\u201d Vincent says. \u201cJamie had always been kidding with him, \u2018When\u2019s Dailey &amp; Vincent going to do a Don song?\u2019 And sure enough, we got the last cut. When he had passed, I got a text from Jerry Douglas, who played dobro on there, and he said, \u2018I guess we played on Don\u2019s final cut,\u2019 and I said, \u2018Indeed, we did.\u2019 The musicianship we had on this record, it\u2019s really incredible and we\u2019re just so grateful that people help us create music that we love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMainstays and trailblazers in the bluegrass genre, Dailey &amp; Vincent are three-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards entertainer of the year winners and have earned six No. 1 albums on Billboard\u2019s Bluegrass Albums chart, most recently with 2018\u2019s holiday-oriented project <em>The Sounds of Christmas<\/em>. Now, they\u2019re also watching as artists including Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull have continued to further open doors for bluegrass music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s wonderful,\u201d Dailey says. \u201cThey\u2019ve brought in a lot of new ears and eyes and it\u2019s great. It\u2019s great music and to see artists like Billy Strings going back and getting Doc Watson cuts and all these older songs and bringing them to a younger audience, is the coolest thing. We\u2019re on a different circuit obviously, but with [the <em>The Dailey &amp; Vincent Show<\/em>] at RFD-TV, we are taking the older style of music and new stuff we find and putting it on [the show].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDailey &amp; Vincent are now on the road headlining their A Beautiful Life Tour, which runs through October, including their annual Dailey &amp; Vincent Music Festival slated for Sept. 17-19 in Hiawassee, Georgia. The fest includes performances from Rhonda Vincent, Ricky Skaggs and Wyatt Ellis.
