David Beckham got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, with wife Victoria Beckham and pal Tom Cruise serving as guest speakers.<\/p>\n
Cruise, a fellow Walk of Famer, spoke first, highlighting David\u2019s impressive career.<\/p>\n
\u201cLong before the trophies, the sold-out stadiums, the global fame, the recognition, there was a young boy with a dream. And the determination and discipline to earn everything that followed,\u201d the actor said at the podium.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why this feels like such a fitting place for us to celebrate him. His is a Hollywood story. A boy who believed in something bigger than himself, had to work for every opportunity he received and went on to influence his sport, shape culture around the world and create opportunity opportunities for generations who followed.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd for all the records, achievements and recognition, the thing that has impressed me most is that success has never changed who he is. The same core values that got him there are the ones he lives by today.\u201d<\/p>\n After shouting out Victoria and the \u201cbeautiful family\u201d the longtime couple created, Cruise concluded, \u201cYou earned this, and nobody \u2014 and I mean nobody \u2014 deserves it more, my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n Victoria, for her part, began her speech with a joke.<\/p>\n \u201cGrowing up in England, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was one of those iconic things that you only saw in films \u2014 a way of immortalizing people who had succeeded in their fields and truly left their mark. So naturally, I assumed I was coming here today to receive my star for my part in that iconic cult classic \u2018Spice World: The Movie.’\u201d<\/p>\n She went on to praise her husband\u2019s \u201cvision,\u201d \u201cdetermination\u201d and \u201cextraordinary amount of hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMost of you will know David as a sportsman, a businessman and an activist, but behind those titles is a man who has always been defined by his character. His drive, his determination and his ambition are known to everyone, but I\u2019d also like to acknowledge his kindness, his loyalty and his commitment to the people that he loves,\u201d the fashion designer gushed.<\/p>\n The soccer star also had support from his and Victoria\u2019s kids \u2014 sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, as well as daughter Harper, 14 \u2014 while their estranged son, 27-year-old Brooklyn, and daughter-in-law, Nicola Peltz, 31, skipped the Los Angeles event<\/a> despite living only 20 minutes away.<\/p>\n Page Six confirmed Wednesday that Brooklyn and Peltz would not be at David\u2019s star ceremony.<\/p>\n
