King\u2019s Birthday Honours<\/a> list.<\/p>\nDr Michael Dixon, the head of the Royal Medical Household and doctor to the King, has been appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) \u2013 the highest honour in the monarch\u2019s personal gift.<\/p>\n
Dr Adrian Clifton, the principal apothecary at Sandringham, and Dr Robin Balfour, the principal apothecary at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, has received the LVO.<\/p>\n
Dr Thomas is a specialist doctor, technically known as a consultant diagnostic and interventional radiologist. He is an expert in diagnosing cancers and treating tumours with precision medicine guided by images from ultrasound and CT scans.<\/p>\n
His specialism \u2013 gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary radiology \u2013 includes cancers of the bowel, liver, pancreas, bile duct and others around the midriff area.<\/p>\n
As well as carrying out and reading scans to assess tumours, he uses targeted treatments \u2013 which, unlike traditional chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments affecting the whole body, are delivered directly to affected organs to kill cancer cells.<\/p>\n
He is the latest in a long line of doctors, including radiologists, to receive personal honours from the monarch.<\/p>\n
Sir Peter Kerley, consultant radiologist to King George VI, who had cancer of the lung, was made KCVO in 1972.<\/p>\n
Sir Harold Kingston Graham-Hodgson, the radiologist who carried out examinations of King George V, became KCVO in 1950 for his services to the Royal family.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
