Two of the most trusted women in the households of the Princess
\nRoyal and Duchess of Edinburgh have been recognised in the King\u2019s
\nBirthday Honours.<\/p>\n
Annabelle Galletley, Assistant Private Secretary and
\nLady-in-Waiting to the Duchess of Edinburgh, has been appointed a
\nCommander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO), while Leonora,
\nCountess of Lichfield, has been made a Dame Commander of the Royal
\nVictorian Order (DCVO).<\/p>\n
The Royal Victorian Order is a personal gift of the Sovereign
\nand is awarded to those who have provided distinguished service to
\nthe Monarch and the Royal Family.<\/p>\n
Mrs Galletley is one of the longest-serving members of the
\nDuchess of Edinburgh\u2019s household, having worked alongside Sophie
\nfor more than three decades. She has remained a constant presence
\nthroughout the Duchess\u2019s royal career, accompanying her on
\nengagements in the UK and overseas while also playing a key role
\nbehind the scenes in the running of her private office.<\/p>\n
Her promotion to Commander follows an earlier appointment as a
\nLieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in 2014, recognising her
\nyears of dedicated service to the Royal Household.<\/p>\n
The Countess of Lichfield, meanwhile, has been elevated to Dame
\nCommander of the Royal Victorian Order.<\/p>\n
Lady Lichfield has long-standing ties to the Royal Family. She
\nwas married to the late Patrick Lichfield, the renowned
\nphotographer and cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, and has remained
\nclosely connected to royal and charitable circles.<\/p>\n
The honours underline the importance the King places on
\nrecognising the contribution of those who serve the Royal Family
\naway from the spotlight.<\/p>\n
Unlike many honours awarded on the advice of ministers,
\nappointments within the Royal Victorian Order are made personally
\nby the Sovereign and reflect individual service to the Crown and
\nRoyal Household.<\/p>\n
Several other members of the Royal Household were also
\nrecognised in this year\u2019s Birthday Honours, including Dr Robert
\nHywel Thomas, the King\u2019s Clinical Radiologist, who was appointed a
\nCommander of the Royal Victorian Order, and Jacqueline Fergusson,
\nRoyal Florist to the Royal Household, who received the Royal
\nVictorian Order.<\/p>\n
