The Duke of Kent joined members of the Royal Family on the
\nbalcony of Buckingham Palace as they welcomed King Charles III back
\nfrom Trooping the Colour.<\/p>\n
Prince Edward, who is 90-years-old, took his place among senior
\nroyals gathered for the traditional balcony appearance following
\nthe King\u2019s Birthday Parade.<\/p>\n
The Duke watched as King Charles and Queen Camilla returned from
\nHorse Guards Parade after taking part in the annual military
\nspectacle marking the Sovereign\u2019s official birthday.<\/p>\n
Also on the balcony were the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sir Tim
\nLaurence and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, thousands of spectators lined The Mall to
\nwatch the King\u2019s Birthday Parade.<\/p>\n
King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to Horse Guards Parade
\nin a carriage drawn by Windsor Greys, while the Prince of Wales,
\nthe Princess Royal and the Duke of Edinburgh took part in the
\nparade on horseback.<\/p>\n
The Princess of Wales travelled by carriage alongside Prince
\nGeorge, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, with the young royals
\nwaving to crowds as they made their way through central London.<\/p>\n
The Duke of Kent\u2019s presence on the balcony was particularly
\nsignificant given his long association with Trooping the
\nColour.<\/p>\n
For decades, Prince Edward played a central role in the
\nceremony, riding in the parade and later accompanying Queen
\nElizabeth II during some of the most important moments of her
\nreign.<\/p>\n
In the later years of Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s reign, he regularly
\njoined his cousin on the dais at Horse Guards Parade as she took
\nthe salute.<\/p>\n
His support became especially poignant in 2021 when, following
\nthe death of the Duke of Edinburgh and amid the restrictions of the
\ncoronavirus pandemic, he joined the late Queen for a scaled-down
\nTrooping the Colour in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle.<\/p>\n
A year later, he stood alongside Queen Elizabeth II during her
\nfinal Trooping the Colour as Platinum Jubilee celebrations got
\nunderway.<\/p>\n
