Prince William<\/a> has defied a royal rule during his latest appearance at Trooping the Colour.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n The 43-year-old stood alongside his family<\/a>, including his father King Charles<\/a>, wearing his red military uniform and tall black headgear as they inspected the troops together during the King\u2019s birthday parade<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n But there was one detail of his outfit that raised eyebrows \u2013 his facial hair.\u00a0<\/p>\n Prince William sported his beard with his military uniform\u00a0Mark Cuthbert<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The future king sported his thick beard, which he has spent the last few years growing out, despite it being considered a violation of protocol for members of the royal family<\/a>, and especially for those in the military.\u00a0<\/p>\n While there is no explicit rule banning beards for members of the royal family, Prince Harry noted in his memoir Spare<\/em> about when he got married with his beard intact.<\/p>\n \u201cA beard was thought by some to be a clear violation of protocol and long-standing norms, especially since I was getting married in my Army uniform. Beards were forbidden in the British Army,\u00a0\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n Harry\u2019s beard was even a point of contention between himself and his older brother, whom Harry claimed \u201cordered\u201d him to shave ahead of his 2018 nuptials.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAt one point he actually ordered me, as the Heir speaking to the Spare, to shave,\u201d Harry wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cHe hated the idea of me enjoying a perk that he\u2019d been denied,\u201d he added, referring to the fact William wasn\u2019t allowed to have facial hair on his own wedding day.<\/p>\n The King is clearly in favour of his son’s bold look.\u00a0Samir Hussein<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Prince Harry got special permission from the late Queen Elizabeth to keep his beard for his wedding.\u00a0AP\/AAP<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n However, Harry ended up getting his way, claiming that the late Queen Elizabeth herself gave his beard the stamp of approval before his nuptials.<\/p>\n Now it seems William has also gotten his way, standing during the event beside his father, the monarch, who clearly had no issue with his son\u2019s bold look.<\/p>\n William was first spotted with his stubble in late 2024 when he returned to royal duties following a summer vacation with his family, including Catherine, Princess of Wales<\/a>, and their three children, Prince George<\/a>, Princess Charlotte<\/a>, and Prince Louis<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The family had taken some time for themselves after the Princess of Wales underwent major abdominal surgery and battled cancer.<\/p>\n William’s family weren’t huge fans of the facial hair.\u00a0AP Photo\/Kirsty Wigglesworth<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n The beard sent royal watchers into a frenzy, though his own family had mixed opinions.<\/p>\n The royal revealed in a November 2024 interview for the Earthshot Prize that, \u201cCharlotte didn\u2019t like it the first time.
