A crowd gathered Friday night in Mobile\u2019s Cathedral Square to hear Alexia Jayy<\/a>, winner of the most recent season of \u201cThe Voice,\u201d<\/a> sing the National Anthem, and to watch as she was honored by Mobile\u2019s mayor.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m ready to go play ball. I\u2019m ready to go fight. Whatever I need to do after that, Ms. Alexia Jayy,\u201d Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said after her performance of the anthem. \u201cWe\u2019re so proud. We\u2019re so proud of you. And we all know you\u2019re from Irvington, and that\u2019s great, but I still hope you tell people you\u2019re from Mobile. Mobile is proud. And we are just so thankful that you\u2019ve been able to share your voice with the world, with a national audience. You\u2019ve been able to share some of that soul of Mobile with the national audience.\u201d<\/p>\n Cheriogotis made Jayy laugh when he gave her the key to the city. \u201cI don\u2019t know what it unlocks, but maybe you can find out and tell me,\u201d he said. \u201cCertainly, if you find yourself in a spot of trouble or get a parking ticket, show them that.\u201d<\/p>\n The city proclamation cited some of Jayy\u2019s career accomplishments and concluded:<\/p>\n \u201cThroughout her journey, Alexia Jayy has remained a proud representative of the Gulf Coast community, demonstrating humility, determination, and a commitment to inspiring others to pursue their dreams regardless of circumstance.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd whereas her accomplishments serve as a shining example to young people throughout our community that hard work, faith and perseverance can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.
