Kansas City Royals<\/a> pitcher Seth Lugo<\/a> was involved in an extremely scary moment in the fourth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Texas Rangers<\/a>. Lugo was forced to leave the contest early after taking a 107-mph line drive off his forehead.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred with Lugo’s former teammate Brandon Nimmo<\/a> at the plate. Nimmo immediately went to check on his friend after reaching first base and calling for time.<\/p>\n

Lugo seemed to be doing much better than expected after getting hit. He appeared lucid and animated after the play, interacting with and talking to Nimmo. Lugo even cracked a slight smile while addressing his former teammate. He managed all of that despite a massive welt forming on his head. You could already see a colorful bruise sprouting on Lugo’s head just seconds after he was hit.<\/p>\n

Although Lugo seemed OK, he was immediately removed from the contest. He gave up a run on three hits over 3 1\/3 innings pitched.<\/p>\n

While the Royals eventually took a lead, the team couldn’t hold it, falling to the Rangers 6-4 in extras.<\/a><\/p>\n

After the contest, the Royals said Lugo was “doing well.” The team will put him through “the appropriate protocol and testing<\/a>” to make sure he doesn’t have a concussion. It’s unclear whether Lugo will be able to make his next start if he passes all those tests.<\/p>\n

Lugo, 36, is in the midst of another solid season with the Royals. After being used mostly as a reliever his whole career, he joined the Royals as a starting pitcher and has been an excellent signing by the franchise, posting a 3.55 ERA in three seasons with the team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
