The Wilson Active Artists Association will celebrate local artists at the group\u2019s summer exhibit, which opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 18.<\/span><\/p>\n The \u201cShades of Summer\u201d reception offers light refreshments and the opportunity to chat with the artists who are making their mark in Wilson. The paintings on the brick walls of the Hammond Gallery quietly whisper, \u201cIt\u2019s summer!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The show will include Ely Cotrina\u2019s whimsical watercolors and Alison Hesmer\u2019s large acrylic works. Hesmer\u2019s \u201cRoyal Botanic Gardens\u201d was inspired from a trip to Melbourne, Australia. <\/span><\/p>\n Rick Tracy records his summer road trips with his art. One adventure took him to Middleburg, Virginia, and another to a Cumberland County orchard. Tracy combines aspects of each trip into one canvas. <\/span><\/p>\n The show will also include Elaine Marshall\u2019s abstract \u201cBlue Runs Through It,\u201d a bright abstract mixed media work by Andrea Horton-Morton, and \u201cScorched\u201d by Jane Gardner.<\/span><\/p>\n Artwork will be for sale.<\/span><\/p>\n The Hammond Gallery, located in the lobby of the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, is open whenever a public event is scheduled.
