Melanie Martinez <\/a>has shared a statement following the death of Oliver Tree<\/a>, whom the alt-pop singer-songwriter used to date a few years ago.<\/p>\n Martinez began a Sunday (June 14) Instagram Stories post by writing that she\u2019d \u201cbeen an absolute wreck\u201d since the news of the fatal helicopter crash that killed Tree and five others broke earlier that day. \u201cIt\u2019s really hard to understand how someone who you once shared such a specific and formative time of your life with can all of a sudden be gone,\u201d she shared. \u201cHe was so dedicated to his art which I admired and respected so deeply.\u201d<\/p>\n More from Billboard<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI think everyone who knew him will look back at those moments of laughter and joy he so easily sparked,\u201d the Voice alum wrote. \u201cHis laugh was so contagious and warm. His ability to lead creatively and take action while also maintaining a sense of childlike wonder and awe was so inspiring. He had such a soft heart and was a true artist in every way.\u201d<\/p>\n Martinez added, \u201cRest in peace Oliver. I know you\u2019re making the angels giggle. I\u2019ll be here wondering what stunt and creative project you\u2019re scheming up in heaven. All my love.\u201d<\/p>\n Tree died at the age of 32 while on board a helicopter that collided with another in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. He was killed alongside fellow passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim and Lucas Brito Chaves and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.<\/p>\n The cause of the crash is under investigation.<\/p>\n Martinez is one of several musicians mourning the loss of Tree, with Bebe Rexha writing on X<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m in shock \u2026 He was so smart . Passionate. Talented. Kind. I\u2019m so sad. May he rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThanks for sharing your art and for always being different in the best way possible,\u201d T-Pain posted<\/a>, while Kid Cudi wrote<\/a>, \u201cSpoke to Oliver a few weeks ago. This is heartbreaking. A really amazing and beautiful human.\u201d<\/p>\n Martinez and Tree dated for a period circa 2020, with the former interviewing the \u201cLife Goes On\u201d artist in October of that year for Alternative Press<\/a>. When she asked him to share his celebrity crush, he replied, \u201cI didn\u2019t want to say this, but she\u2019s literally the most beautiful woman in the world, and she goes by the name Melanie Martinez.
