With projects like Mamma Mia! and Les Mis\u00e9rables under her belt, Amanda Seyfried<\/a> has certainly established herself as a triple threat in Hollywood. A gifted singer, actress, and overall performer, Seyfried has moved fans time and time again, but there\u2019s one project of hers that will never see the light of day.<\/p>\n In a June 15 interview with British GQ<\/a>, the mom of two revealed that she was knee-deep in preparation to play Joni Mitchell in a biopic, when it all went down the drain.<\/p>\n More from SheKnows<\/strong><\/p>\n In the feature, Seyfried shared that she learned to play Mitchell\u2019s Blue album on dulcimer, piano and guitar during the COVID-19 pandemic for the film. \u201cIt was a movie about her and [manager] Elliot Roberts,\u201d she says. \u201cThen he died \u2013 but not before I met him.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition to Blue, Seyfried learned many of Mitchell\u2019s classics, such as \u201cThe Circle Game\u201d and \u201cBoth Sides Now.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe day that I finished learning the last song on the album, \u2018[The Last Time I Saw] Richard,\u2019 I f\u2014 wept,\u201d Seyfried admitted. \u201cI felt like a bona fide musician, like I belong here. I felt like I had put my own flag on the top of the mountain. While visiting the legendary singer at her house in Los Angeles, Seyfried got to know her as the two shared a steak dinner and listened to Blue.<\/p>\n \u201cI sat on the floor petting one of the dogs,\u201d Seyfried remembered. \u201cShe told me a lot of stories.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cShe\u2019s like, \u2018We\u2019ll put on the album and light a fire,’\u201d Seyfried said of their time together. \u201cAfter we listened to the album, she\u2019s like, \u2018It\u2019s sparse, isn\u2019t it?’\u201d Seyfried, of course, disagrees. \u201cIt\u2019s perfect!\u201d she responded.<\/p>\n Sadly, however, the project never came to fruition. Instead, Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe is working on his own Mitchell biopic with Anya Taylor-Joy and Meryl Streep reportedly slated to be younger and older versions of the singer.<\/p>\n \u201cApparently, a lot of people reached out to Cameron Crowe and were like, \u2018What the fuck are you doing, dude?’\u201d Seyfried said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what he said, but from my knowledge, his version is, she\u2019s really young and then she\u2019s older.\u201d<\/p>\n Previously, Seyfried went viral for her rendition of Mitchell\u2019s classic song \u201cCalifornia\u201d on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in March 2025. \u201cIt was not an audition,\u201d she clarified in the Just for\u00a0Variety<\/a>\u00a0podcast. \u201cIn fact, I didn\u2019t even consider that, which is funny.
