An estimated two billion people tuned in to watch the Prince of Wales wed Catherine Middleton in April 2011,<\/a> with the pair exchanging vows at London’s Westminster Abbey.<\/p>\n However, the 43-year-old has never been seen wearing his wedding band on his left hand, despite his wife hardly ever making an appearance without her own engagement ring, which belonged to the late Princess Diana.\u00a0<\/p>\n Now, a resurfaced interview with a palace source has revealed the truth behind William’s decision to forego his wedding ring over the years.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s not one for jewellery. He\u2019s never worn any,\u201d an insider told The Mirror in the lead-up to William’s 2011 nuptials.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cHe decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It\u2019s all down to personal preference.\u201d<\/p>\n William isn’t the only royal who decided against wearing a wedding ring, with his grandfather Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, also foregoing a wedding band when he was consort.\u00a0<\/p>\n A royal commentator reflected on the unorthodox act, informing Marie Claire in 2018 that the men in the royal family have “never” been forced to adhere to the ring-wearing custom.<\/p>\n \u201cAlthough it\u2019s traditional for royal women to wear both an engagement ring and a wedding ring after they get married, it\u2019s never been traditional for royal men to wear one,\u201d Eloise Parker told the publication.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why Prince Philip and Prince William don\u2019t wear them,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cI think when you have a wedding watched by millions, everyone knows you\u2019re married.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
