I guess people really like the way I sing mariachi. That\u2019s where my heart is.\u201d<\/p>\n The singer credited the visual\u2019s striking atmosphere to director Baldemar Garcia<\/a><\/strong> of 1st Class Cinema<\/strong> and the support of local Rio Grande Valley business Cigar Society<\/strong>, where the video was filmed.<\/p>\n \u201cHe did a great job with the lighting and really bringing out the smoke from the cigars,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cIt came out really, really dope. It\u2019s very simple, just a performance video, but it gave that mood.\u201d<\/p>\n For Gonzalez, choosing \u201cTragos Amargos\u201d was a natural fit.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s one of those classics that is never going to die,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople really like the way I sing these types of songs, so I wanted to give them one of those. Fans tell me all the time that they listen to my versions of these songs, and that means a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n Operating independently through her own label, Palabra Records<\/a><\/strong>, Gonzalez has taken an active role in every aspect of the project, from production and performance to recording and creative direction.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m running the show now,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot, but I love it. It\u2019s very fulfilling to make it happen and see everything come together.\u201d<\/p>\n The artist hopes to continue preserving classic ranchera music for new generations through future projects, including a possible mariachi EP.<\/p>\n \u201cI have this hashtag, \u2018New Era Ranchera,\u2019\u201d Gonzalez explained. \u201cIt\u2019s the same love for the ranchera songs of the past, but in a new era. These songs are still alive, and I want to help keep them alive in some way.\u201d<\/p>\n Gonzalez also played guitar and vihuela on the recording and was involved in the engineering process. The project featured a talented lineup of musicians, including Elena Z\u00e1rate<\/a><\/strong> on guitarr\u00f3n, Mike Sital<\/strong> on trumpets and violins, and Juan Cuevas<\/strong> on accordion.
