He makes jazzy retro-tinted pop, but in his new music video, aron!<\/strong><\/a> goes bubblegum. OK, technically, he just chews the stuff.<\/p>\n

Out now, \u201cShiny Stockings\u201d is the latest installment in aron!\u2019s monthly singles series. The track maintains the young guitarist and singer-songwriter\u2019s knack for what he calls \u201ccozy pop,\u201d bringing old-school jazz elements into the realm of modern pop songcraft. The lyrics are inspired by a wardrobe element that caught aron!\u2019s eye: \u201cShiny stockings, rocking icy blue\/ I love the way they stick to you,\u201d he sings. \u201cAnd if I\u2019m lucky, maybe I can too.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the \u201cShiny Stockings\u201d video, directed by Alexa Cha, aron! wanders into a used bookstore, where he\u2019s chided by the proprietor, then has an unexpected romantic encounter. In keeping with the song\u2019s vintage vibes, aron! and his love interest share ear buds connected to a portable CD and chew bits of gum torn from a spool of tape.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cShiny Stockings\u201d follows previous monthly single drops including May\u2019s Mei Semones duet \u201cMacram\u00e9,\u201d April\u2019s \u201cFoolsong,\u201d and March\u2019s \u201cWonderful Thing.\u201d The latter track earned attention from John Mayer, who spun it on his SiriusXM channel, noting, \u201cIt\u2019s just nice to hear music performed by a guy who knows a lot of chords but also knows how to use them in a tune.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Charlotte native, aron! was raised on classic rock (via Guitar Hero<\/em> and his parents\u2019 music collection) and studied classical composition at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He made his debut on Verve last year with the EP Cozy You (And Other Nice Songs)<\/em> and is continuing to develop his self-proclaimed \u201csinger-songwriter jazz\u201d sound as he builds toward the release of his debut full-length later this year.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always resonated with the real old-school romantics,\u201d aron! says. \u201cPeople are going through the same things now as they were back then. Heartbreak is heartbreak, and love is love. We\u2019re all humans, and that\u2019s what most of these songs are about.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
