Like The Beatles<\/strong> and The Rolling Stones<\/strong>, Tesla<\/strong> got their start covering the bands who came before them. So, it should come as no surprise that 40 years later<\/strong>, the band are returning to their roots with a full-length studio album dedicated almost entirely to covering some of music<\/a>\u2019s greatest artists.\u00a0We use the word almost<\/em>, because the 14-track tribute <\/strong>kicks off with a Tesla original<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfac <\/strong>SIGN UP for Parade\u2019s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox<\/strong><\/a> \ud83c\udfac\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Unveiled today, along with a polished new music video, \u201cNever Alone<\/strong>\u201d is a heartfelt, acoustic-driven rock anthem akin to Tesla\u2019s 1989 smash<\/strong>, \u201cLove Song<\/strong>.\u201d<\/a> Inspired by the band\u2019s first tribute album, Real to Reel<\/em><\/strong>, released nearly 20 years ago, the song was written by bassist Brian Wheat<\/strong> and bridges the band\u2019s storied four-decade career with a universal message of human connection.<\/p>\n In a chat with Blabbermouth<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, Wheat reveals that he wrote the song \u201cin the 11th hour\u201d of recording Homage<\/em>, while at celebrity cook Rachael Ray<\/strong> and musician John Cusimano<\/strong>\u2019s home.<\/p>\n \u201cIt started out as a simple guitar riff,\u201d he says. \u201cI picked up John’s acoustic guitar and started strumming these chords to kill some time. When I listened back to it, it sounded like a Tesla song.\u201d<\/p>\n From there, he and frontman Jeff Keith <\/strong>added the finishing touches and ended up with a track that \u201cturned out pretty good,\u201d he says. He adds that they recorded the song, because they want their fans to know they\u2019re \u201cnever alone.\u201d<\/p>\n The lead single prefaces a slew of covers paying homage to truly the greatest artists of our time. From Sam Cooke<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cBring It On Home<\/strong>\u201d and Lynyrd Skynyrd<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cThe Ballad of Curtis Loew<\/strong>,\u201d to Etta James<\/strong>\u2019 \u201cI\u2019d Rather Go Blind<\/strong>\u201d and Queen<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cSpread Your Wings<\/strong>,\u201d the album transcends time and genres. You can get a sneak peek at Tesla\u2019s Queen cover here<\/a> and the full tracklist below.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018Spread Your Wings\u2019 for me was the song I always wanted to record by Queen,\u201d Wheat said in May, per Blabbermouth<\/em>. \u201cI always felt it was the one song they had in their catalog that should’ve been a massive hit, but wasn’t because it was overshadowed by ‘We Are the Champions<\/strong>‘ and ‘We Will Rock You<\/strong>‘ on the News of the World<\/em><\/strong> album.\u201d<\/p>\n Homage<\/em><\/strong> is set for a July 17<\/strong> release date via Frontiers Music Srl<\/strong>. Touted as a \u201cthank-you expressed through music,\u201d the LP gives Keith the stage to show off his vocals and the band an opportunity to celebrate the legendary artists who helped shape Tesla into the multi-platinum rock band they are today.<\/p>\n \u201cHomage<\/em> is \u2026 an offering to the great singers and songs that shaped the music we grew up listening to, and the songs we would eventually write,\u201d Wheat says. \u201cWe hope you all enjoy this as much as we did making it.
