\n\tOne of the funniest copyright<\/a> \u201cdisputes\u201d in recent memory has reached an amicable, dare we say charming, end: CBS<\/a> has agreed to a licensing agreement, which will be donated to charity, after Stephen Colbert purposefully played<\/a> one of Vince Guaraldi\u2019s famous Peanuts<\/a> <\/em>tunes on the final episode<\/a> of The Late Show<\/em><\/a> without permission.<\/p>\n \n\tLee Mendelson Film Productions, Inc. (LMFP), which owns the rights to Guaraldi\u2019s television and film catalog, confirmed the news in a statement shared with Rolling Stone<\/em>. LMFP will donate the proceeds from the agreement to the World Central Kitchen, the nonprofit founded by star chef Jos\u00e9 Andr\u00e9s, which provides food relief in conflict zones and during humanitarian crises.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThe exact sum of the fee\/donation was not revealed. But it will be the second donation to the World Central Kitchen to emerge from the end of The Late Show<\/em>: On the penultimate episode, Colbert presented the nonprofit with $2.5 million on behalf of the outgoing late-night institution.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tColbert foisted this good deed upon his now-ex employer during an installment of his \u201cMeanwhile\u2026\u201d segment on The Late Show <\/em>finale<\/a>. After noting that LMFP had recently filed several lawsuits over unauthorized uses of Guaraldi\u2019s music from \u201cA Charlie Brown Christmas\u201d and other Peanuts <\/em>TV specials, Colbert looked straight in the camera and said, \u201cPeanuts<\/em> is a powerful brand and corporation in and of itself. Anyone illegally using that music is going to have to pay through the nose.\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAs he was speaking, The Late Show <\/em>band, Louis Cato and the Great Big Joy Machine, started playing \u201cLinus and Lucy.\u201d Asking his bandleader if they were, in fact, playing the same music he \u201cjust said people were being sued for,\u201d Cato gleefully replied, \u201cYeah, that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing,\u201d as the band played on.\u00a0<\/p>\n
