{"id":2464753,"date":"2026-06-18T01:43:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T01:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/?p=2464753"},"modified":"2026-06-18T01:43:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T01:43:28","slug":"juneteenth-events-in-vermont-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/celebrity.land\/en\/juneteenth-events-in-vermont-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Juneteenth events in Vermont 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 \u2014 two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed \u2014 when the<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/06\/20\/1105911785\/the-new-juneteenth-federal-holiday-traces-its-roots-to-galveston-texas\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\"> Union army arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed African Americans<\/a>, as well as plantation owners and enslavers, that \u201call slaves are free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, but communities around the country have a long history of coming together on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Federal offices including the U.S. Postal Service will be closed on Juneteenth. Libraries and town offices across Vermont will also be closed in observance of the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the Juneteenth events taking place across the state:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"\"><b>Bennington<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration<\/b><br \/>Friday, June 19, 1-4 p.m.<br \/>Merchants Park<br \/>This free event brings live music, free food, educational presentations and performances to Merchants Park.
