The S&P\/NZX 50 Index rose 0.99%, or 132.32 points, to close at 13,495.63.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.9%, the S&P 500 gained 1.1%, while the Dow Jones inched up 0.1%.<\/p>\n
In domestic news, New Zealand recorded a goods trade surplus of NZ$800 million in May, compared with a surplus of NZ$1.6 billion in April, Stats NZ data showed.<\/p>\n
Also, the March quarter New Zealand gross domestic product (GDP) data showed that monetary policy easing was working, but through business investment and trade rather than the consumer, Jarden said in a note late on Thursday.<\/p>\n
