Today, the holiday serves as a celebration of Black freedom, culture, history, and community, often marked by festivals, educational programs, music, and public gatherings.In Athens, two major community-centered events anchor this year’s observance. Organized by longtime local institutions and advocacy groups, both gatherings emphasize culture, education, and community connection through performances, public programming, and opportunities to support Black-owned businesses and organizations.<\/p>\n
