\n\tNothing says love more than climbing atop a New York City Department of Sanitation garbage truck with your friend and waiting three hours for the New York Knicks<\/a> to arrive.<\/p>\n

\n\tWell, maybe the only thing that tops it is climbing over steel barricades \u2014 in defiance of whatever barriers the NYPD set up \u2014 with your pal and squeezing past thousands of other rabid spectators to get as close as possible to seeing the team\u2026 and waiting\u2026<\/p>\n

\n\tThe New York Knicks, NBA champions<\/a> for the first time in 53 years, drew over a million people to their first-ever ticket-tape parade in lower Manhattan\u2019s legendary Canyon of Heroes, according to reports. In addition to team stars like Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby, Karl Anthony Towns and Josh Hart, the floats carried Mayor Zohran Mamdani and many members of the team\u2019s celebrity cheering section, like Chris Rock, Spike Lee, Timothee Chamalet and Fat Joe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tJoe rolled deep with his own squad, bringing along Mary J. Blige<\/a>, Havoc of Mobb Deep (both pictured above, with Joe), Remy Ma, Joe\u2019s podcast partner Jadakiss (with his group the Lox), Ja Rule, Teyana Taylor, Remy Ma, Yung Miami and members of the Wu-Tang Clan.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe took the opportunity to turn his float into a concert curation on wheels where everybody got a chance to perform.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe had three hours worth of songs,\u201d said DJ Ted Smooth ,who was the DJ and maestro for Joe and co. \u201cOf course we couldn\u2019t get to all of them, but we were ready for everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn all, Joe\u2019s ensemble gave the crowd along Broadway about 90 minutes\u2019 worth of hits.<\/p>\n

\n\tYung Miami did her new smash \u201cSpend Dat\u201d early in the set, and from there it was a tag team, with performers sharing the spotlight. Mary J. Blige sang \u201cReal Love,\u201d the Lox did \u201cMighty D-Block (2-Guns Up),\u201d then Remy weighed in with \u201cConceited.\u201d Mary J\u2019s \u201cFamily Affair\u201d remix with Fabulous and Jadakiss fanned the flames and the Lox\u2019s Styles P stepped in with \u201cGood Times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWu-Tang Clan came with \u201cTriumph,\u201d then back to Joe and Remy for \u201cLean Back.\u201d The duo also did \u201cAll The Way Up.\u201d Joe, Jada and Ja Rule then shook the crowd with \u201cNew York,\u201d which has become a Knicks anthem.<\/p>\n

\n\tNot to be outdone was Teyana Taylor with \u201cRose In Harlem,\u201d Melle Mel with \u201cThe Message,\u201d Havoc with \u201cQuiet Storm\u201d and \u201cShook Ones PT. II\u201d and of course C.R.E.A.M. by the Wu.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was like a dope ass live mixtape,\u201d Smooth said. \u201cI treated it like that \u2014 play their records, two verses, next record. I was going round-robin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJoe made the most of the day, shooting scenes for a video of \u201cVictory Lap (Him),\u201d featuring Jadakiss and Yung Miami.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u00a0\u201cIt meant everything to me to watch the Knicks win the championship,\u201d Joe told Variety. \u201cI\u2019ve been going to games since I was a kid sitting in the nosebleeds, so it still feels like a dream to have been part of this ride. There was a time that I wasn\u2019t sure if I\u2019d ever see the Knicks win a title during my lifetime. As long as I\u2019m alive, I will always stand with the Knicks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBasketball has been synonymous with hip-hop for a long time,\u201d Wu-Tang\u2019s Method Man told Variety. \u201cKurtis Blow, anybody? \u2014 \u2018Bassssssketballl.\u2019<\/em> Even if you aren\u2019t a New York Knicks fan, you became one during their run because it was so magnificent to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJoe and some of his compatriots even walked with the crowd to watch the ceremony, hosted by Mamdani and featuring a performance from Alicia Keys.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is our time!\u201d Keys exulted. \u201cWe are the champions! We on fire today!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tKeys then sang a short snippet of Billy Joel\u2019s \u201cNew York State of Mind\u201d before leading into her solo rendition of \u201cEmpire State Of Mind,\u201d her classic with Jay-Z that has become an anthem for the city.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere have been multiple Knicks-specific anthems this year: French Montana, Max B and Remy Ma have the \u201cBig Bronx Remix\u201d of \u201cEver Since U Left Me,\u201d which played through the NBA Finals, and at midnight last night, Busta Rhymes released \u201cThe Championship Anthem.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA longtime believer is Nems, who made the 2021 Knicks anthem \u201cBing Bong\u201d (Knicks Remix) and attended the parade as a fan.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s united the city like crazy,\u201d Nems said. \u201cNew York is a place where you can have a Black neighbor, a Puerto Rican neighbor, next door over is Arabs, and then Greeks and Asians, and sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes groups of people stay to themselves. But not when the Knicks are on! The energy is out of this world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNew York rapper Maiya the Don added, \u201cEveryone is so unified, it\u2019s really beautiful to see. New York culture is hip-hop culture by default, and every true New Yorker is a Knickerbocker.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
