Singer-songwriter n\u00e9om\u00ed<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has released her latest single \u201cClose\u201d in tandem with the announcement of her upcoming EP Crunchy, Sad and Strangely Happy. <\/em>Leaning more into the pop side of her folk-pop sound, n\u00e9om\u00ed\u2019s new single shows a relationship long over but still without an end in sight.<\/p>\n \u201cClose\u201d begins with n\u00e9om\u00ed\u2019s usual acoustic guitar at the centre of the mix, but quickly gives ways to a pop tonality once the first verse settles in. Electric keys filling up the song\u2019s soundscape are what gives \u201cClose\u201d this pop feeling, but the keys\u2019 cooler tone also gives a soothing contrast to the sharper elements of the song. These sharper elements can be found in the percussion-heavy drum kit and tightly-strung acoustic guitar.<\/p>\n As \u201cClose\u201d continues, it adds electric guitars and synth leads, allowing for a easy increase in energy. Despite its electronic sounds, \u201cClose\u201d feels right at home within n\u00e9om\u00ed\u2019s stripped-back and intimate musical style.<\/p>\n n\u00e9om\u00ed explained the song is \u201cabout an unhealthy form of love\u2026 you can\u2019t live without each other so that\u2019s the reason why you have to stay close.\u201d In the song\u2019s chorus, this unhealthy attachment can be heard clearly with the line \u201cour love will tear us apart because you love to make love to someone else.\u201d In a song that makes you question if you really are in love, the songwriter\u2019s repetition of the word feels like a punch in the gut.<\/p>\n \u201cClose\u201d is set to feature on n\u00e9om\u00ed\u2019s upcoming EP, Crunchy, Sad and Strangely Happy,\u00a0<\/em>releasing on September 18 via Nettwerk.
