Ross Valory is opening a new chapter for \u2018All Of The Above.\u2019<\/p>\n
The acclaimed original Journey bassist and songwriter will release a refreshed and remastered edition of his debut solo album on August 21 through OID Music. Originally released digitally in 2024, the collection will now be available for the first time on vinyl and CD, bringing Valory\u2019s solo work to physical formats fans have been waiting for.<\/p>\n
The updated edition also includes a brand-new instrumental composition, \u201cCity Lights,\u201d accompanied by a cinematic new music video that travels through different eras of New York City. The song adds another dimension to a project that showcases the breadth of Valory\u2019s songwriting and musicianship.<\/p>\n
For \u201cCity Lights,\u201d Valory assembled an accomplished lineup featuring Eric Levy, Steve Smith, Bobby Strickland, Stevie \u201cKeys\u201d Roseman, and the late Mic Gillette. Their performances help shape an evocative instrumental piece inspired by romance, nightlife, and the energy of the city after dark.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018City Lights\u2019 is really about people out and about in the city, possibly in the rain, looking for and finding romance,\u201d says Valory. \u201cIt\u2019s just the simple enjoyment of nightlife and romance\u2026the adventure, the excitement, the spontaneity. Just being out on the town.\u201d<\/p>\n
Valory also sees a connection between \u201cCity Lights\u201d and his previously released composition \u201cNightflower.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018City Lights\u2019 and the previously released \u2018Nightflower\u2019 are really sister songs,\u201d he explains. \u201cThey both have the flavor of the big city at night.\u201d<\/p>\n
The video continues Valory\u2019s creative partnership with director Michael Cotten, who previously created visuals for every track on the album, including \u201cTouched, Pt. II,\u201d \u201cTomland,\u201d \u201cWild Kingdom,\u201d \u201cWindmill,\u201d \u201cNightflower,\u201d \u201cLow Rider,\u201d \u201cIncident At Neshabur\/Se\u00f1or Blue,\u201d and \u201cNo One Wins A War.\u201d<\/p>\n
Produced by Valory and co-produced by Eric Levy and Jacob Stowe, \u2018All Of The Above\u2019 presents a wider musical canvas than listeners may know from his work with Journey. Across its 10 tracks, Valory explores instrumental rock, jazz-infused arrangements, and richly textured compositions while performing keyboards, guitar, and multiple basses.<\/p>\n
