Charlie Baker, signed legislation establishing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masshist.org\/masshistoryday\/juneteenth2025\">Juneteenth as a state holiday in 2020<\/a>, a year before then-<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/explore\/stories\/our-american-story-juneteenth\">President Joe Biden made it a federal holiday in 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are several different events across the Commonwealth observing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.wickedlocal.com\/story\/wellesley-townsman\/2021\/06\/16\/first-year-juneteenth-state-holiday-massachusetts\/7711650002\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.capecodtimes.com\/story\/news\/2024\/06\/15\/capes-juneteenth-celebrations-honor-day-slavery-finally-ended\/74096114007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Juneteenth<\/a>, ranging from fun and festive to educational and family-friendly, and sometimes all of the above. Dr. Ngina Lythcott will lead the calling of the ancestors, followed by an opening prayer from Pastor David Brown and the Rev. Kennedy Hyannis Museum at 397 Main St.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All members of the community are invited to join us in commemorating a vital part of American History,&#8221; a press release sent from Barnstable&#8217;s Director of Communications Lynne Poyant reads. &#8220;This special occasion will provide an opportunity to learn about the history and significance of Juneteenth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Cape Cod Branch of NAACP, Amplify POC Cape Cod and the JFK Hyannis Museum were credited with the announcement.
