Nelson is joining communities across Canada in celebrating the FIFA World Cup\u2122 with four days of soccer, music, and community events that will bring together fans, local businesses, residents, and visitors from across the region.<\/p>\n
A news release from the city states that the festivities begin on June 24. The event will feature live match viewing, family-friendly activities, sponsor and skills booths, food vendors, and a beer garden.<\/p>\n
Transit in the West Kootenay will be free on that day. Riders will be able to travel free of charge throughout the region, including service from Selkirk College in Castlegar to Kaslo, and Nakusp.<\/p>\n
According to the city news release, emcees Lucas Myers and Ruth & Shelby will kick off the celebration at 11:30 a.m. The first match begins at noon as Canada takes on Switzerland, followed by Scotland versus Brazil at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
The celebration continues with Nelson Soccer Days, running June 24\u201328 and transforming downtown Nelson into a hub of activity with live music, match watch parties, special promotions, and community events.<\/p>\n
\u201cSoccer has a unique ability to bring people together,\u201d said Mayor Janice Morrison. \u201cNelson Soccer Days is an opportunity to celebrate the world\u2019s game while supporting local businesses, connecting with neighbours, and showcasing the energy and hospitality of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Throughout the four-day event, residents and visitors can explore downtown shops and restaurants, participate in the Soccer Passport program, and enjoy live entertainment across the city. Participating businesses will offer special promotions, contests, and other activities.<\/p>\n
The Nelson Soccer Association will also offer a free youth skills camp on Friday morning, and host Masters matches throughout the week.<\/p>\n
